Asus A8N-SLi Deluxe Chipset Fan

Dont know if anyone has heard the noise when a A8N chipset fan goes, but its not pleasent! Does anyone know if there are any aftermarket chipset HSFs that fit this motherboard without fouling the cards in the PCIe 16x slots? thanks. RF

htat noise just needs a bit of work. I pulled mine off an cleaned it, removed the top metal cover, and then placed a fan at teh adge of the board blowing across it...no more noise. Oh, and my chipset temp is now 26c while doing 3d with BOTH 7800GTX'es. but Boy was that fan annoying before i took care of it!

Yeah its really annoying, thing is, the bloody thing is seriously hot aswel! it touched the side of the heatsink and i had to pull my finger back! Is the nForce4 kown for running hot, ive read on the net that using the nVidia hard drive controller makes it hotter but...really...should it be that hot!

yes it should. the power section of your vidcard right there does not help either. just disassemble the heatsink, take the fan out, and drop a VERY SMALL dab of oil on the axel, and then plug the fan in and let it run for a hour or so disconnected form the heatsink, to make sure there is no excess oil, and then put it all back together.

I noticed that when it got hot it got noisier,,,most likely due to the cheap plastic of the fan expanding.

you need to rmove the entire heatsink. the Nforce4 chip is about the size of 256k athlonXP, adn the heatsink balances on top...trying to jsut remove the fan may chip the chipset, although mine performs better since i chipped it(don't copy me tho, PLS!!).

The thermal yellow goop on there suck pretty bad too.

Don't bother putting the cover for the heatsink back on...it's part of the noise(but not all, unfortunately)...the fan rubs up against it when going top-speed.

LoL. Try putting a fan blowing towards teh back of your case, so the air goes over the chipset. You could use soem velcro strips to mount it in place. To be honest, the other components around the area are what cause the fan to spin so fast and get noisy, so airflow in the area would definately help...I tried watercooling the chipset as well, and i found that even then it still needed a fan because of the radiant heat heating EVERYTHING. So I switched back to air, and have the same temps. My Thermaltake Typhoon is better than the watercooling i have right now anyway.

We after reading around the net ive found out that Asus have replaced the chipset hsf with a newer revision which they will quite happily send you one if yours fails. So im gonna get one of them but in the meantime iim gonna wait till i get my thermalright hsf and do both the cpu and chipset while the mobos out of the case.

hey dave quick off topic question, have youu tried the 7800GT yet as im replacing my 6800GT with one in the very imidiate future...what do you think of it.
