3500+ Venice, ADA3500BPBOX: OEM vs Retail?

Hi

I've just ordered a 3500+ CPU from a website for a brilliant price. Being a little nervous, I did a little search and it seems there are apparently both OEM and retail versions with the same ordering part number (ADA3500BPBOX)? I know that OEM CPU's have a 1-year warranty and the retail ones come with a 3-year warranty.

Is there any way to distinguish between these, when I collect the CPU tomorrow?

Yep.

Retail should come in a box with HS/F. OEM will come with just the processor.

Normally I agree, except that I've just googled for "3500+ OEM heatsink OR hsf" and found places advertising OEM 3500's with HSF's. Weird...

So, the matter is clarified:

It was a PIB (retail item, 3-year warranty), but was not the ADA3500BPBOX. Instead, I got a ADA3500BWBOX, or the newer E6 stepping of the 3500+ Venice. AMD lists that the max CPU temp is 65degC as opposed to 70degC for the E3's.

I've read that despite having some fixes in the new revision, there are people who've found their E6 Venice CPU's to be inferior to the E3 ones when overclocked. I haven't decided if it's worthwhile to overclock though, since I intend to use it for gaming more than anything else.
