If your looking for an overclock. Pick up a 939 Opteron 144 or 146.
Ask alot of people on these forums, they got a few...good clocks.

If money is not an issue and you want to try something new go for X2 but if you want great performance at an unbeatable price then Opteron 146 is the only way

According to The Inquirer, S939 Opterons are hard to find 'cause AMD either wants them to be used in Servers--or they're going to release the M2 socket early next year. Anyone find the S939 Opterons difficult to get hold of?

Don't know about the x2's, but the opty 148 would get my vote. It has the best chance of doing 3gig, and is the most available of the low end ones. Also it is selling for close to suggested price, while the 142 and 146 are heavily marked up.

Opetarons are available in 939. A £95 Opteron can be overclocked to match or beat the scores of a FX57 in Custom PCs benchmarks.
Astonishing, and entirely true.
Out of the box they only match a 64 3000, so really only ideal for overclockers!

Well, based on all the hype add me to the list of people who've gone out and bought Opterons for their potential overclockability. Just ordered an opteron 148 myself.

What do you mean out of the box they're no better than a 3000+?

Good thing I plan on overclocking it!

$207 USD @ Monarch.

Now I have to decide which motherboard to buy. Thinking of this. . .

Here is where im sitting now, nowhere near done yet. The weird part is that after doing hours of burn-in, when overclocked the processor runs cooler
