Trailing Edge

now that I finally got to Socket754, I have a question about what
processor to get for my Epox 8NPA SLI.
3000 mobile Clawhammer? 3000 Venice? it is a budget build and I
would like to keep the cost down. def under $200.00usd. closer to
$150.00. thanks for your ideas.

Howdy Ron, a very Merry Christmas to you good sir!

Newegg has a good number of choices in that dollar range. I know nothing about Turion Mobile procs, they're 'reasonably' priced and have 1 Mb L2's.

Well, depends on your usage.
A turion IMHO gets owned by the P-M.
Then again, I've not seen far too many comparisons. However, if your looking to overclock, and a top of the line 754, then
the Venice E6 is your choice.

Although they have less L2 cache than the clawhammers, you must understand they also have support for SEE3 and an updated memory controller...not to mention they OC like a SOB.

E6 would be my recommendation.

"The motherboard installation section essentially said "refer to motherboard manual for installation instructions". My motherboard manual of course said "refer to case manual for further installation instructions"."

got a 3000 Newcastle to 270X9-2430 on an Abit NF8-V. the Epox
will be a good place for that Venice.

Nice pull man, nice pull!!! I put a 2800+ in my father in law box and had it up and running (folding) for a couple of days while it was here. I only set it to run at 75% and I godda say it quite well (pretty fast on the WU's) at that speed. Although it was only a 1.6 it did really well IMHO. I didn't bother to overclock it as it only has a stock cooler on it and I wasn't sure were he would put it. Sure enough it ended up at the bottom of a desk. At least it has a small openning in the back (about 6x8 inches)

While I was there it finished a WU, only thing is no internet to send it with. Oh well, he's going to order DSL and I'll have him run F@H when it's on the web.

Anyways, enjoy that new cpu!!! I know he will!!
Fold on brother!!!
Fold on!!

back at ya, big guy!

the Turion is the new Duron and now offered in
mobile flavors too. the mobile 'Sledghammer' is
or might be the skt754 answer to m2400/2600
skt462 that oc'd nicely.
this will be my last personal build for a while. I
have yet to make room for it and the garage
sale is 4 months away.
