Nf7s-v1.2 - sound and ethernet probs :(

So, I changed back to my nf7 and the restarting problems have gone from my computer

However, I have no sound whatsoever

and have had to go back to using my DSL cable modem through USB because it won't recognise the ethernet connector. I don't seem to have the Asus disk... and there's nothing to download that I've found so far (and yes, I have disabled the 1394 adaptor) I don't like not having my LAN router to protect my PC!

any wise people want to put me straight again?!

surely you're not suggesting that the winXP hardware manager isn't sufficient
looking on tucows for something suitable now - any suggestions?

nVidia LAN problems can be caused by a missing/bad MAC address in the BIOS. What drivers are you using for Sound? The nVidia drivers should work fine, as long as sound is enabled in the BIOS.

actuly make sure that you have the options in the bios set so they take readings. I acidently changed one once and took me a while to realise.

sound was enabled in bios - i turned up the volume and realised that something is coming through, but that it is garbled.
changed speakers for another pair to no improvement.
figured sound on board may be frelled, so pulled out an old soundcard to try bypassing it, but xp won't find any drivers for it (and slartibartfast knows where the floppy went...). XP always used to look on the web for me for all drivers and now it won't at all. bah!
will get around to tring to sort out the ethernet problems once the mrs can listen to radio 2 on demand again (and I'm not stressing about getting my final submissions in for my APC - and my car decided to start making expensive noises too)

Both sound and ethernet on board can be finnicky about overclocks... get your FSB/AGP back to stock, reinstall the drivers and see if both come back. If they do, lock the AGP to 66 and you should be ok.

What is your current FSB? With v1.2 166 is the "official" max.

ahhh!
am currently using 180fsb, so will try what you've suggested later in the week (hope i get time)
i'll have to download the drivers tho as i can't find the disc...

mind you, i only know how to install drivers using the XP hardware manager, so i hope that's sufficient

so if I read it right, you don't have the driver disc for your Abit board? I would think you would run into problems using the Asus disc. Maybe that's why the ethernet and sound driver isn't working right.

if you can't find the disc, try going to Abit's support site and download the drivers from there..

.. although I did run into few Abit NF7 series boards having sound problems at high FSBs i.e. 220~ 250.

Mine worked fine a 221, and my AN7 worked fine at 240, but I had to put a heat-sink on the south bridge first, in both cases.

BTW, good to see you again!

What do you think of what we've done with the place?
