Since it is socket AM2, I would guess pretty much an AM2 chip that AMD comes out with.....

Does this mean that nVidia has moved to putting Dolby Live encoding back in their chipsets, or does this just mean that Abit are using a third party CODEC to do it?

Nice board, layout looks pretty solid too, good to see more boards with widely spaced PCIe slots...

ABIT has been extrernal Sound cards that use pci-e connectivity for a while now..this allows them to add ANY codec to ANY board. Will have to see the backplate to know for sure what it is tho...might be Creative-made, a la MSI.

FX Series processors are stupid (IMO) If you want high speeds at cheaper price, I would say an Opteron AM2 when they come out will be awful nice.

The FX is more of a branding exercise than a marketable processor, and AMD has known that for a long time. There has to be a flagship extreme performance CPU that heads up every major comparison between AMD and Intel.

Intel used the Extreme Edition chips for the same thing. They were stupidly expensive and impractical, but they served as Intel's top line basis for comparison.

As overclockers, we look at the absolute top end chips from whichever maker and how they compare, as that gives us a better understanding of how they stack up under overclocked conditions.

I think thats the point you are missing. Mercedes do not sell big numbers of the Maclaren SLR. But they made it all the same, and flashed it all over the world. Since they made that car, the Mercedes SLK has played off SLR styling cues. All of a sudden, the SLK, which up until now was for hairdressers with rich boyfriends, is a cool car, and sales have gone up.

By buying the 3200+, I was buying the FX53's little brother. Thats the association that AMD wants to keep.
