AMD pricing on AM2 CPUs

FYI

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=31737

Low end dual core for $323.

I'm holding out for a price war.

Well it seems the inquirer got it right

http://www.amd.com/us-en/Corporate/V...108324,00.html
Prices near the bottom.
The 14W end of 3rd paragraph

I to pray for a price war

The only bright side to the announcements is that "energy efficient" to me infers that with extra voltage... there's more headroom for overclocking.

opterons for overclocking, server chips are usually far more stable.

But then its always price vs speed vs overclockability

Hopefully they have a better overhead for voltages, which to me means better overclocking. But they could have a pretty tight design spec

Seem to remember June 6th as the release date for AMD2 CPU's to regular people. I may be wrong, but the AMD2's offer only ~10% better performance than Socket 939's of comparable clock speed do. Personally I wouldn't wait, unless this customer's gotta have the latest.

The only advantage of waiting I can see, is that judging from the AMD site that multiple core CPU's (greater than dual), seem like they will be starting on the AM2 socket.

But hey I'll probably upgrade in 2007 (aerographics and HTT 3) or 2008 for DDR3
