Socket 939 CPU's

Hey all,

My current build (EPOX 9NPA+ Ultra) is the first build I've had in quite awhile. Thus, I'm not really familiar with what goes on during a socket transition like this current one to AM2.

My questions are:

1. What will the availability of socket 939 CPU's be like after the AM2 is released?

2. Should we expect any price drops in socket 939 components after the AM2 release?

The main reason I'm asking is because I'd like to get in on an opty 165 or 175 to replace my Venice 3500+ at some point.

Cheers,

Xander

Opterons will be slow in dropping price, while the remaining 939 cpu's will see a slow departure from teh market over the next 6 months.

would you expect 939 X2's to drop more/faster than the opterons?

I think I'll pcik up a dual core opty sometime, shame I didn;t buy a dual core in the first place could have saved myself quite a bit of money.

"The motherboard installation section essentially said "refer to motherboard manual for installation instructions". My motherboard manual of course said "refer to case manual for further installation instructions"."

I couldn't wait guys;

I picked up an new opty 165 retail box for 260 US on ebay; I thought it was a reasonable deal. This will be the last 939 CPU I get; hopefully it's a good overclocker.

Cheers,

-Xander
