Wouldn't that be, I dunno, WRONG! Since it was your friend who screwed it up, your friend should pay for it. Let him learn from his mistakes.

I'm afraid I have to agree... plus, CPU returns are a concern of all retailers/etailers. They WILL look, and your friend's case, are bound to see the "user damage". It's best be be honest and upfront. Remember, how much is your contact going to appreciate you trying to take advantage of him?

There are plenty of cheats in this world, don't join their ranks.

Here's the rub. Going to Frye's and saying it was cracked when purchased or saying it "just cracked" for no reason, well then that's lying, and that is wrong. That you'll have to live with.

If Frye's accepts the return after knowing you cracked it (by being honest with them), then it's on their conscience, not yours (and consider yourself lucky).

Why not let your friend return it? Why put yourself in a position where you feel that you must lie for his benefit? Helping him by building his system for him was more than enough. YOU didn't break his Athlon!

We all need to learn from our own dumb*** mistakes. I'm so thickheaded that my mistakes that cost me money are often the only ones I really remember. If your pal will be stuck with a Duron for a while, it's his own fault.

Say what?

I see a reference to 'Fight Club' which is a movie I most relate to right now. There's a topic for Jeff, What movie hits you the most'.

This is probably just a funky attitude from a wild and carefree individual. Not unlike myself I'm sure.

You got that right brother... Being a member of an 8000 employee engineering "machine" makes that movie take on a whole new meaning...

Maybe I should start changing my sig quote every week and see who can tell me the movie first.

I think if you can screw the bastards over, go for it. Back when the economy was chugging along just fine, and everything computer was grossly overpriced, they had outrageous markups, and they are still making a killing, not to mention that it is most likely the distributer that will swallow the bill, and they are a bunch of crooks anyways. I say take advantage of every chance you get to exploit the system, as it exploits you often enough.
