Question ACPI Settings

Hey all,

I just upgraded from a S939 3500+ Venice to an Opteron 165 on an EPoX 9npa+ Ultra and I have a question.

I had the latest BIOS, so the mobo recognized the processor just fine. Windows XP (with SP2) also seemed to recognize the processor fine, as it shows the two processors in the device manager.

However, when I opened up CPUz I noticed that I could not use the processor selection dialog box to switch between cores. Upon further investigation I noticed that only one CPU graph was displayed in the TM when it is supposed to show two for a dual core system.

This all lead me into reading about ACPI settings in Windows XP which has gotten me a little confused. From what I can gather, my current ACPI setting (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC) is a uniprocessor setting therefore I can't get the features I've described above.

What are the advantages/disadvantages to changing this setting? Will this give me any performance changes or OC problems? Is it all just cosmetics? I really don't want to do an XP repair install, but I've heard you can change it just by using the update driver button. Basically, if any one of you experts could give me the d-lo I would much appreciate it.
