AMD to rename ATI

I cant see this being a good idea, the ATI name has too much clout by now, and the new name will just confuse people, at least for a while.

By taking an A out of AMDATI it's easy to see that the name of ATI will be transformed in DAMIT

I've heard that linux community came up with better implemented security in it's latest Linux Mint Gold version, it's actually preventing the user to log in, thus posing 0 risk in contamining the computer with malware! Well done to the open source community!

Color me cynical, but this strikes me as a really bad move. I do find it rather amusing, however, that the Inquirer published a piece a while back called "AMD has to buy ATI to survive" by Charlie Demerjian, and then just yesterday they published another piece called "ATI is a duff purchase for AMD" by Arron Rouse. Seems even the folks at the Inq can't agree whether it is a good idea or not.

The AMD brand name is stronger than ATI. So, not all that suprising that they have dropped the ATI name. Two names would just cause confusion to the masses.

i really hope you are right, bc if they do change it, i really think they would have just INSTANTLY wasted all the money the spent on the merger, bc they would lose just as much if not more with the name change...
