MSI K9N mobos suffer random shutdowns

After Asus and its teetering problems with several AMD based motherboards, Foxconn's 30-minute BIOS reset affair, it seems that MSI also suffered from some headaches in relation to nForce5 chipset. One of the problems is very similar to the MacBook Pro random "Power Off" syndrome which many Apple users endure right now.

from MSI forums:

Quote:
Dear Kamal,

We have fixed this issue by changing C565 from 100pF to 220pF. All the stock had been reworked, and we have informed all the MSI™ Distributor locators.

So please get your MB for RMA.
As to the RMA, The normal procedure is to contact your reseller (the place you bought the board from) for repair/exchange , If the reseller for some reason like bankrupt cannot be contacted, then contact MSI distributor http://www.msi.com.tw/program/contact/where2buy/ or MSI office near your place http://www.msi.com.tw/program/about/w2b/index.php
Sorry for any inconveniency.

Best wishes,
MSI Technical Support Team

The problems in combination with the X2 are well known. The only solution is an adjustment in the hardware and therefore the board needs to be sent in.

You can send in the motherboard via your supplier right now or you can send it in later to have it adjusted.

Best Regards,

As to the problem: "while using AMD AthlonX2 CPU, especially 4600+, and doing file upload or download, the system auto shuts down randomly." The above problem only happens to non-Platinum board with ECN001. (Affected ERP are : 601-7250-040/050/080 ). We should add some hardwares to solve the problem, so we suggest you get the motherboard RMA. Sorry for any inconvenience.

I have an MSI k9n Platinum. I was having a power off issue, but only when overclocking. I RMA'ed that board and got a newer version. I orignally had 1.0 and now I have version 1.1. I suggest everyone who owns this board, exchange it now!

Here is a link to my topic on the 'power off issue':

ACPI problems...sheesh. I can't beleive they released a board like that. You would have been stable if ACPI was disabled, apparantly.
