Athlon XP 3000+ Celeron D 320 Performance...

Hey all, i picked up an Athlon XP 3000+ plus mobo and 768mb (PC2700) RAM from a friend for £50 to use as a backup PC. I have a Celeron D 2.4Ghz which i use as a main pc but i was wondering if the Athlon XP would be a better PC to use as a main PC. What do you think?

Thanks

That XP should kill that thing...

Especially for gaming...

Set up the new board and run some benches. It should tell you what you want to know for sure.

So you've joined the light side? Glad to hear it! But yeah, the Athlon XP will own the Celery.

Intel seem to make up their Ghz charts on the P4's.

My XP-M of 100€ over 3 years ago blew intel chips out of the water which costed 3 times as much at that time. Yeah, overclock it and be impressed

The XP is outdated but then again the Celery has been castrated from the beginning. It won't even put up a fight when compared

Definitely go the AXP 3000+ for the main system - it'll be a Barton core with 512KB cache. You might also be lucky enough to get an Athlon XP that is not super-locked (usually if it's manufactured before week 39 of 2003 it's not super-locked) so that you can lower the multiplier and raise the FSB to 400MHz (if your motherboard can handle it). You'll get a nice performance boost from this - you'll be able to run it at AXP 3200+ speeds.

What motherboard did you get with it?
