No, only dual socket. But it's made for the quad-core sockets, so you can have a dual-socket, 8-core system.

I could be wrong, but I <THINK> the TDP of the new sockets is supposed to fit within the same envelope as the current dual cores.

OK, a dual socket board. Big difference between a four and two "holer." I wish part of Intel's design team moonlighted at AMD, of course that isn't Capitalism. Could work the opposite way too, sigh.

8 cores are ok, but where are the 32/64 core systems? Mind you, software needs a very different design approach in order to run across that many cores - just ask those programming Cell processors.

The tech industry seems to take a long time to respond to new hardware, in terms of programming methods.

That's because we are busy churning out programmers who think all you have to do to write a program is throw together some VB or C# code with a bunch of COM objects and you've got a program.

In the strictest sense of the word, that is true. Unfortunately, good software is as much an art as it is a science, and the art is not being taught.
