socket A and the clawhammer

Does anyone know anything regarding the size of the socket that the clawhammer will be using??? i see that it has more pins than the Athlon and the Athlon XP but will its socket be as big as Socket A???

You guys think our current heatsinks will work on the clawhammer?? Say, will the Swiftechs 462s, Alpha PAL 8045s , etc work with the clawhammer?? (I'm hoping theyll keep the heatsink mounting holes on future boards)

Not gonna work at all!

Clawhammer/Sledgehammer will use a 40mm square package, SocketA(462) is a 50mm square package.

Hammer socket will have no lugs. Hammer boards will not have four HSF mounting holes, but rather two! This makes hammer HSF mounting mechanisms a great deal less expensive than Intel's P4 s478, which cuts platform costs.

Hammer "keep-out zone" appears to be layed out for a 60x80mm HSF. This is about 20% smaller than Intel's P$ s478 "keep-out zone". This saves on PCB area, which cuts platform costs.

I'll try and hunt you down a picture of the hammer reference board without the HSF. You will be able to visualize quite well when you see the photo!

I saw a pic of the board without the HSF mounted at a German website, that is what I want to hunt down, can't remember the URL though

No!

Thoroughbred is just a Palomino fabbed on a 0.13u process rather than a 0.18u process. This makes the CPU die smaller and less expensive to manufacture. As you have also probably heard smaller transistors switch faster, so it is likely that Thoroughbred will overclock a little bit better than the high-end Palominos.

Clawhammer is the K8 not a K7.
