I wish AMD had something hot on the freakin' market right now. I'm seriously considering building a new AMD box, just to buck the trend. Truth be to tell, I need a dual-core machine for what? Does email count?

Email x 2.....

I am with you on this. I just can't see me going back to Intel. So what is AMD is down now. They wore the crown for a long time. I can still go up from where I am. I will just wait to see what happens.

I have a little bit of both, I really don't pay too much attention to what's in it. If I didn't build them and just started to use them I couldn't tell you which was which between the AMD dualcore and the C2D.. I buy what I want at the time and move on. I am not loyal to either AMD nor Intel because I know either one would kiss me and tell me they love me just to grab a few dollars out of my wallet.

Like GW I think MS speaks to a very small group of true believers... and stock holders.

This could be usefull for amd particularly if they have poor yields on the quads. because they have limited manufacturing ability they could switch all production to 'barca' cores and then salvage the crap chips to make them entry level tripple cores.

They do need to move on as single core is dead these days, and dual core has become entry level.
Intel already has a mainstream priced quad core (the q6600) and when penryn and when phenom finally gets here then mainstream computers should switch to quads, leaving the entry level fight between duals and tri's.

Intel wont need to make there own tri-core if they can bang out ~3GHz 45nm dual core parts cheap enough then they would be more than a match for a 2GHz tri-core.

I say entry level because the Q6600 is already $266 / £170 which puts it in the mainstream catagory, heck you can buy a computer off the shelf with a Q6600 in it for less than £500.

On another note, the barca's in server form have been out for a week now, aside from the odd 'preview' where are all the reviews ?

The tri-core will also have the likes of this to fight up against, a $90 cpu that can do 3.2GHz $89 Pentium Dual Core that Runs at 3.2 GHz | Tom's Hardware

From the Inq:

Quote:
WE DECIDED to ask Paul Otellini whether Intel would ever contemplate creating three cores on one die.
So he said: “We see a distinctive advantage in having all the cores on one die work.”

Yea, but with more cache and an increased FSB.

There's also a chance that its just two jokes, glued together, on the same package.

So is it 2 out of 4 jokes but only 2 worked, or was it intended to be 2 jokes.

Not really sure, but I can see problems coming after they shrink the joke, then have to come up with a completely new idea..

Thanks to the Israeli engineering team.

The American engineering team are still getting over with the fact that their last joke (Netburst) wasn't funny.
