AMD's Athlon64 G2 stepping examined

Planet3DNow.de take a look at the most recent stepping (G2) to give us an answer to the burning question:

Has AMD finally got something to compete with the Core2 architecture?

The short answer is 'No'. However, as with many short answers, that doesn't reveal the full story.

The one or two OCs I have seen from the Rev G2 5000+ Black edition chips have been to like 3.4Ghz, so yes the G2 does overclock better. However the 5000+BE is still too expensive when you can get an E4300 for that price .

When the G2 trickles down to the 4000+, it will be a low-end killer imho.
