AMD's Fusion Processors Are Designed to Be as Fast as Discrete GPUs

From X-bit Labs

A high-ranking executive of Advanced Micro Devices said Friday that while the so-called accelerated processing units (APU), which combine x86 cores, memory controller and graphics processor on the same piece of silicon, will tangibly rise the bar for performance of built-in graphics, they will not destroy the market of discrete graphics processing units (GPUs).

Four Phenom II's plus new graphics chips on a board? Possibly insane performance, or am I confused by the jumbo mumbo of the boffins?

Where can I buy one of these? Yeah, I know, six months out according to the article. It would be awful if these procs stole a march on Intel. Whaa!

I'm confused, if these new graphics included CPU's are so capable, how will this not eat into the market for discrete GPU's? Or will an additional graphics processor be necessary because of...?
