New amd gaming rig

MY new pc....

sabertooth 990FX
amd FX8350 @4.2ghz
16GB 1600mhz hyperX ram
AMD HD7970 3GB asus DCPC graphics
hyperX 120GB SSD
WD 320GB hard drive
1TB,500GB working over usb3
corsair HX850 psu
aerocool cyclone black case
window 8.1
asus monitor 24" 1920x1200 res.

all of this was not cheap but i love playing games looking at there best. Why did i go AMD over intel well seeing AMD is the front runner in the next gen console market they could easily bring out graphic enhancements in games that only AMD products can benefit from. This will mean intel & nvidia will not get any benefits from. I could see intel even making a offer to buy nvidia if this new console of there's do not take off. This pc plays all games at maxs settings and 1920x1200. I made 5 videos on utube well i was bringing this beast in to the world. just search " AMD GAMING RIG PART 1 " 5 parts.

My regards ! I'm a long term AMD fan and am always glad to find another. You've clearly greater hardware stats than I and I'm presuming you're an easily more capable gamer, and as gaming is a balance between cost and performance -- I think AMD has plenty to offer. I also like and agree with your Console Vs PC argument.

As an HSA fan. I'm genuinely looking forward to what AMD and affiliates bring to the scene over the next few years. In terms of sheer compute power, I'm expecting it to be good !

AMD fan here!
Mostly because of price.
I build budget gaming machines and AMD is always the way to go!
My recent machine 91 year old) cost me $622 with Gigabyte motherboard, AMD Phenom II 3-core, 8 Gig DDR3, GeForce 550 Ti and later a Samsung 120 Gig SSD drive.

Runs fast with Win 7 and Mint 14.
The main reason I stuck with Nvidia is because ever since the 8800 I've been very impressed. Recently I found that Nvidia drivers run way better in Linux than AMD, so I don't regret it.

I've heard a lot of good things about Corsair power supplies. I've stuck with Enermax, but have entertained getting a Corsair several times.

What do you think of Windows 8.1?

I have built a similar rig
ASUS 990FX Sabertooth R 2.0
ASUS 7970
FX8350
16 Gig Crucial Balistix 1866 9-9-9-27 @ 1.5V
Crucial 256 Gig SSD
WD 1 TB 'Black' HD
Fractal 750 PSU
Antec Kuhler 920 (Great and quiet)
Samsung Blu Ray drive
All in a Coolermaster HAF 32 case
27" Samsung
Win 8.1 Pro

But it is really my Number 2

The Number one that I actually finished the week before is a better Gamer

ASRock 990FX Extreme 9
Gigabyte 7990
FX 9370
Radeon 16 Gig Ram 2133
Corsair Neutron GTX 500 Gig (or maybe it was 480) SSD
2 TB WD "black" HD
LG DVD
Antec 850 PSU
Corsair H100i cooling (I don't know if it's the video card or cooler but it can get very loud from fan noise)
Corsair 600T case
Samsung 27"
Win 7 Ultimate

I did run 3D Mark with it and while I don't recall the score, the graph had me to the far right of everyone else, but such things are fleeting. Anyway it will work and I had a pot load of free games to DL.

That's not all I have done. Two 8350's for the Warden, one with a MSI 990FX G-80 board and a 7870, the other with a R1.0 Gigabyte 990FX UD7 and a XFX 7970. I upgraded my Mom's with a ASRock 990FX Fatal1ty board and a MSI 7850 vid card, FX 4170 CPU, and finally the kitchen computer got another MSI 990FX G-80, a Sapphire 7950 and a FX-4350.

Don't tell anyone about the 4350 because it is not only faster stock over the 8350 but currently $80 cheaper too. It is the Performance value!

Very nice builds... How much did you invest in each one?

How many computers do you have?

I have seven active desktops in the house. I have a laptop and the Warden has two laptops and a Surface 2 tablet. Two desktops and two laptops are Win 8.1 the others are Win 7.

Very nice, home networks are always fun and you are free to do whatever you want.

I've got 5 mediocre gaming machines (Vista, Win7, Win8)
One Super gaming machine (dual-boot Win 7 & Mint 14)
Laptop for the kids (XP)
Acer C7 chromebook (ChUbuntu)
Supermicro Server (Fedora 18)

A few extra laptops and desktops that need refurbishing and then get donated.
