AMD PR team in Seattle. Or how I un-lucked out.

Dunno if there's a link here, but Ocer's.com put one up on their front page a few days ago. AMD's PR folks are visiting a number of US cities and giving away 200 RB'd Athlon XP's in each burg(I dunno the Clock Speed) along with an unspecified mainboard to run it on.

Roughly 2000 to 2500 folks showed up for this this event in downtown Seattle this AM. I got into the queue which was ~4 abreast and ~1.6 blocks long at 5:15 AM. I waited for less than a half hour to shuffle to the front and pick up my raffle ticket and a magic marker green "x" on the back of my hand. No more tickets were handed out after ~6:10 AM. If you're gonna go, get there early!

200 people got the CPU/mobo box, ~100 got a t-shirt, ~5 got hats and ~35 got whoop de doo 13pc toolkits. As no "Duff-Man" t-shirt "cannons" were used, you had to be within fifty feet of the truck that the AMD promo people used to pick up these items.

I suppose I shouldn't beef. A free lunch is rare, and these particular lunches are rather generous!

The closest number to mine that was called was five digits away. Such is the wicked finger of fate.

The number of people that are showing up for these giveaways is growing exponentially. 5000 or even 7,500 may gather in Philly for the next raffle. If so, I wouldn't bother to go. But you might!

Hey, Cloasters.

Daniel succeeded in dragging me out of bed at 4:30 AM to go stand in that same impressive crowd. So much for our hopes that only 50 or so folks would be in-the-know and that we'd each walk away with multiple giveaways. But we too preserved our record as perfect losers.

We actually stepped into line at about the same time you did.....may have unknowingly bumped elbows even! Shuffled into Line 1 for tickets #7914 and #7915 (no, I'm not hung up on damn "zero's!") at about 5:55 AM, then crossed the street for the long wait.

Not a fact I'm sure, but it seemed like we were the only old geezers there. Wishing I'd had enough lead time to make up some sort of aoaforums.com banner to flap around in that stiff breeze. That might have caught your attention?

Congrats to all those who snagged the bootie today. May the future hold good luck for us all!

Hi, Patti! I did wonder if Daniel ~ was there. I visualize a 20-ish US Marine type. JK! The place was definitely short on the geezer factor, and more than a few in the crowd definitely lacked in the true geek authenticity department.

Where were the stooped shoulders and thick glasses, I ask you. Well, I qualify at least! Might as well confess to the abundant grey hair, too.
Unfortunately, #05778 was not a wiener. After reading that 400 folks showed up in SFO, then 800 in Boston, I knew that many more would be at the Seattle thang. May the fleas of a thousand camels infest... Nah, sour grapes isn't the right attitude.

I doubt that it's worth bothering with the remaining events. If 1 in 25 was the chance in Seattle, it'll be 1 in 50-75 in Philadelphia.AMD will NEED to hire cops, etc. The PA system was a joke, and the woman with the mic wasn't fit for the job.

It's possible that only 200 winners out of a crowd of 5000-7500 is gonna lead to an ugly sitch. Like I said, I'd stay at home if you're not feeling VERY lucky!

I'm not going to the Chicago one. First of all, I live 60 miles away. Second of all, I'm not 15 1/2 yet, so I can't drive. Lastly, if I was truant from school I'd get like thirty million detentions, bad stuff. So, I can't go

Cheer up!

First of all, YOU MUST BE 18 YRS OR OLDER to win the XP, etc. So see, you've already saved yourself a wasted trip.

Second of all, your odds of becoming a 'winner' increase dramatically if you stay in school.....and out of detention halls

Actually, we don't own a couch. So it would be the floor. But we haven't endured 29 years together by being slow on forgiveness Thank goodness. I found the floor wasn't easy to get used to
