First generation XP1600+

Crapola!
I just got my refur 8kha+ and imediately attempted to unlock with the cellphone repair kit... well, partial success.. Default is 10.5x... Now if I manually try to change it to anything, it gives me 10x... ok I'm lazy... but it's an improvement right? , so I try to take it higher.. Before, I could get 1540 on my ECS K7S5A with no voltage control or mulitplier control, just FSB ( and not a lot of that either.) Well, with 10x, I am now able to get ... 1540, doh!!! I can't even get 10mhz more even with an extra .1v.

On the bright side, my FSB went from 146 to 154... with the improved memory bandwidth. I'll take what I can get.

For those who recall my nightmare with my previous 8KHA+, I got a refurb with a bad secondary controller. As luck would have it, the first time I set this one up, the primary controller wouldn't register my DVD, DOH!!! Fortunately, this time around it was due to my stupidity (loose connections).

So I'm using F@H to burn in the board... I don't like the fluctuations MBM is giving me. about .02-.05v on ALL readings. When the weekend comes, I'll bang on it somemore.

FWIW, the cheapo ECS almost never fluctuated at all.

my 1700 isn't doing much better, but if they could all go real high then there would have been no need to go with the thoroughbreds, right?

Running 1540, it never even breaks a sweat. My MG keeps it under 45c under load.

It gets worse... I can't even do 1540. The epox has a voltage fluctuation in the core (maybe a bad board since it's a refurb). I jacked up the voltage to 1.85, and MBM shows it as 1.82-1.86. The highest it is completely stable is 1521. jeez.

Maybe I'll update the bios... couldn't hurt. I shouldn't complain too much.

Hmm. I guess there's a lot of variance in the first batch of XPs. My 1600+ does 1626Mhz completely stable. Tested with Prime95, then ran CPUBurn, Sandra Burn-in, and FAH all at once. Temp went up to 59C with the trio, but it held firm for 12 hours.
