Wow, you guys have low fares. It's like $.75-$1.00 here in Kenosha. And that's for our limited bus service.

That's not bad. In the US, most fairs, bus or subway, start at a buck. I remember being on a college budget so I feel for you, though. Hang in there, and hang on to any RAM you trust.

I've been tempted to replace my RAM... I got some good stuff (micron), some second tier, and some garbage (free compUSA stuff).... Even though I could afford to dump the garbage, I won't since all my systems are very stable. And a lot of it is CAS3 .
When I can get cheap sticks of 512mb DDR ram, I'll just start migrating the RAM down.

I haven't bought any DDR yet as I have only SDR systems at the moment, but with the price so low, I think I'll get that memory that's tested to PC2400. That would kick.

Basically, as of next year (some time in Feb, although its slightly different in each country) most of Europe will drop their national currencies and replace with the Euro (not officially called a euro dollar, but the sub-units are cents).

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (catchy) has elected to keep the pound for the moment. The government has said that if certain economic tests are met (inflation rates, exchange rates, growth rates etc. I think there are 6 tests in total, but they're all subjective) then they will hold a referendum to let "the people" choose (but not those people who are in jail, mental, living overseas etc).

There is a lot of public opposition to this at the moment because some politicians are setting this up as a big surrender to Europe and we'll lose all our sovereignty .. blah ..blah

This is irsquirt reporting from London for AOA Forums.
OIC, thanks for the skinny on that!

Not that it's my call, or that anything I say really matters, but I think you "blokes" should stick with good old pounds. But that's probably my conservative republican side showing it's ugly face were it don't belong again. I think it's interesting that very few other American's of my generation share my political and social views.

I say screw the pound, go with the Euro. A united European monetary unit not only is closer to the eventual idea that Europe is in fact one country, but is much more convienient. A Frenchman (or woman) can now buy stuff in Germany without exchanging money. Personally, if the Europeans would agree to use one language (or know all of them) and become one country they could create a more stable place for themselves and the world.

BTW, I know that Europe is formed of many different cultures...but I honestly think that Europe will eventually move to one state.

yeah but my 40p bus fair is only because I'm a student, and I only get it that cheap to and from college and before 6pm, after that it can cost any where up to £2.25 or I can buy a ticket for £2.50 that I can use on any bus that day.
As for the euro I don't really care, it doesn't affect your average person like me what we use, our prices are still a rip off in the uk
It's only people with lots of money or who have jobs in finance or the stock market it affects and obviously the pound is better for them at the moment or they would have gone with the euro.
As for a single langauge, well most people speak english now anyway so it's only a matter of time.

I think Europe will eventual become one nation. However I feel that each state within that nation will have more power over affairs than our states here in the US have.

As far as one language. English it is! In ages past, communication was slow if even at all possible, today it is fast and international! This "communication age" was brought about by the English speaking world, so English is destined to be the language. Ironically English is supposed to be one of the hardest to learn, some might argue that french is more difficult.
