I have converted...

...to AMD!

A cheapo AXP 1600+ AGOIA
Asus A7V333
256MB PC2700 Samsung 6ns RAM
80 GB WD harddrive with 8 megs of cache
Chieftec Dragon silver case

It seems to work OK now, but I'm really not used to the temps that this beast gives me. My P3 was at 24C idle, this thing is 31Idle! (With Glaciator and ASIII)

I've left it running prime torture test while I am at school. It is doing some 1790 MHz, with memory backed down a bit. Vcore is 1.80v.

I'll go home and tweak it some more!! :-D

Im prepering to see Allan fly past me in the stats. Unless I get a new CPU myself

If you look at what LF has done with his chip you should be able to copy him.

31*c idle is fine, you can get that CPU up to 50*c load efore its likely to get unstable, get 1,85v into it and go got 1850 I bet it will do it.

Make it bark like a dog and beg for mercy. Welcome to the 'more fiscally responsible' club of overclockers. I just got the WD 8MB 80 GB drive as well, not up and running yet, but kick on!

She is up to ~1840 MHz now, with 1.85 vcore. Damn stable, 45C full load. Now I just need the broadband connection to be installed and I'll see how she folds...

Time for researching the volt mods of this earth, eh? Or maybe its time for some unlocking... I doubt the Asus will cope with much higher FSB than it already does!

Thanks for your replies mates.

I think I'll try unlocking the beast, and go for 11 or 11.5 divider... anything I need to know first?

unlocking is pretty easy once youve done it a few times.

Just take yout time and use good quality tape for masking. (we have scotch magic tape in the office that works great)

I also find it helps to gently scratch over the gold contacts before you start.
This removes any varnish from them and gives a better contact with the conductive paint. (especially usefull on the green XP's)

www.tomshardware.com for a video guide.
