Should I swap this PC3200 for PC2700?

I have a 256Mb stick of Twinmos PC3200 which isn't a great overclocker: it can do 200Mhz FSB on Fastest 2.5/3/6/3/1T with Fast CPU Decode enabled on a 8K3A+ (Bios 2815). It needs 3.1V to reach that.
My Sandra bandwidth at that settings is 2970/2718. At 166Mhz max timing my bandwidth is 2563/2377.

It will not run at anything above 200Mhz even at slowest timing, regardless of voltage.

I know someone who lives in the UK who has a 256Mb stick of PC2700 and he's willing to swap.

Should I risk it? All I know about his stick is that it has Winbond AH-6 chips and can do 166Mhz max timings (he isn't able to test it beyond that because he has a KT266 MB).

Ive not heard anything about winbond chips, samsung yes, but nothing about winbond. Search for reviews on memory using those chips to get an idea if its worth it i guess!

Winbond chips are used in corshair 3200 cas-2
Ive seen people running past 200 cas-2 using winbond based memory.

But there are different chips avalable and there also seems to be some variation in overclocking performance, so be carefull to research before you buy.

If it's a new stick try burning the ram in for a while. Try 2.8 volts and the highest fsb it'll do. Use Memtestx86. Run it overnight.
Other wise make certain there is adequate ventilaion in the case and up the volts. At 3.2 it'll definitely hit the 200 level.

Also don't forget that some cpu's don't like to run that high. Lower the multiplyer and try again.

2815 bios rom is pretty good. Why not try 2912 though?
Holst knows all about it.......
