What motherboard to get for AMD Opteron CPU?

Yes, like the title suggests, I need assistance in finding a motherboard that supports AMD Opteron's. Socket 940, basically. I haven't found anything at the moment, so I was hoping you guys could help.

Oh, woe is me, lost traveler of the east.

Any help will be appreciated. =D

Any reason for Socket 940? I ask because I just picked up a combo from Monarch Computer Systems, which is a Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, and a Opteron 165 Dual Core. I am running at 9x220 with it right now using 1T even with Samsung CAS3 ECC memory.

Is there anything wrong with a S939 mainboard? If I bought one would I feel behind the curve if the AMD M2 socket mainboards became available early next year? Probably.

Do Opterons require ECC Memory? I plumb forgot.

940- Ecc Registered Memory
939- Bog Standard Ddr (non Ecc)

Thank you MONKEYMAN!

Okay.

First thing - I realised that the AMD Opteron 148 is Socket 939. My bad.

Second thing!

AMD took the Opteron's off the shelves because of the O/C potential on them. I need to get a hold of one, quickly, otherwise AMD are going to tweak them, thus lowering the overclockability. Any ideas where I can get a hold of one?

Mate,

Several good server boards for S940 are available. I would pick Supermicro over the other manufacturers. Known for their stability and decent BIOS options, they are a safe bet.

Thanks for them links, man. Appreciate it.

Just a quick question, however. These are the original opterons, correct? The ones that were before AMD took them off the shelves?

Welcome to AOA Forums, Super Nade!
If nothing has changed in the quality of Supermicro's mainboards over the last three years, they are the best.
