ASUS A7N8X-XE no boot with two non-RAID SATA drives problem

I recently got this mobo and run it with Windows XP SP2 on my Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 NCQ 80GB SATA II on the SATA1 connector and everything runs fine.

Wanting more space, I bought a second drive (Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 NCQ 300GB SATA II) and plugged it to the SATA2 connector. Here the problems begin:

In BIOS the 300GB HD is recognized correctly but upon save and exit the monitor goes blank and into suspend mode and the system won't boot. From now on the system will only POST from a cold boot but then later hangs when it reaches the Windows XP logo.

I've tested one drive at a time and concluded that both the 80 and 300GB works fine on the SATA1 connector but not at all on SATA2.

To sum it up: Am I missing a setting or something or is the SATA2 connector just simply broken?

Anyone else with similar experiences?
