ASRock AM2V890-VSTA VIA K8T890 socket AM2 motherboard review

If you've been itching to upgrade to one of AMD's latest socket AM2 processors, some of which are priced well under a hundred bucks, there is a growing list of inexpensive motherboards that take advantage of stable and reliable chipsets originally destined for socket 939 generation CPUs to select from.

I would be wary of this motherboard. My board uses the K8T800 chipset (the precursor to the K8T890) and its as unstable as Charles Manson on crack.

Its fine and dandy to put into your mothers machine to play card games play the occasional song. But it is not an enthuisiast board. To be fair, it isnt being marketed as one.

I would be happy to pay the extra $$$ for a new generation chipset such as the 590SLI or 570 just simply for the extra options in the bios and things, but these budget boards are ideal for building simple PC's just for surfing the internet and listening to a bit of music from time to time, nothing taxing so to speak.

Well, there is the old saying "You get what you pay for".

B-but it has a Via chipset. Mongo not like, he told me. Bought an Asrock S754 m'board for a pal, it works great and was very reasonably priced. Not Via, of course.

Im getting ready to buy a 939 nforce-4 Asrock non sli Mb to stick a 3700 i have laying around from my last build as a game box. i just bought 2 gig of Gskill ddr-500 ram for it and an hoping for decient preformance as I entend to mildely Overclock it about 400mhz from a 2.2 to about a 2.6 and as soon as the miney is right again it's going to get a 7900 or 7800 video card.

Ive just been impressed with the burning and encoding that the 2gig of ram on the 939 system's dose. I know it wont keep up with my duall core chip a 2X4200 in the encoding but as far as burning is consirned the reliability of the system is amazing compared to the 1 gig of ram system's running a 400fsb. My game box has the same ram in it and you just cant beat it I almost never make a coaster and that is what im going for reliability.===BA===
