how do you use multiple 3d mark programs?

how do you use early versions of the 3d mark? im currently useing direct x 9c.when i install and try to run 3d mark 2001 se,it says i have the wong version of direct x.[it wants to use direct x 8] i have no problems running 3d mark 2003.can anyone help?im kind of new to bench marking. thanx

one thing you could try is editting the registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\DirectX\Vers ion

from 4.09.00.0904 to 4.08.00.0904 this shouldnt be a problem for dx9 games and should help with dx8 games, if there is a problem edit it back

thanks for the info guys.i went with the patch route [i dont like messing with my reg if i can help it] anyway the patch worked fine.i got a score of 10437 on an xp 3200+[oc'd from 2500+] the video card was a ge force fx 5700 le
i get a score of 4012 on 3d mark 03 and i dont know if i want to try 05 as it will probley send my card up in a puff of smoke....gotta upgade,i was thinking about a 6600 gt its in my price range and is a good card from what ive herd.

yeah the 6600gt is a great card in the $200 price range, it's better than the x700 from what I've been reading. for a little more though you could probabally get a 6800LE or a standard 6800 which will outperform the 6600gt and possibally modify into a 6800GT/Ultra which are none to shabby
