Catalyst Driver problems using 3DMark03

I've ran 3DMark03 on my system and it completed the task fine. 3DMark tells me that I'm using the Catalyst 4.7 drivers of which they no longer support and recommend I use Version 5.3. When I install V5.3, my computer runs extremely slow. The graphics are slow to load in all areas. When I remove them and re-install V4.7 everything works fine again. Anybody else have a similar problem with ATI's latest drivers. My graphics card is ATI 9700 Pro.

Use 4.12. the 5.x series is optimized for the x8xx series.

This is a bit irritating, that Futuremark doesn't accept older official WQHL drivers (they modify the list of drivers after every release of a new patch for their benchmarks).

As cadaveca wrote, 4.12 works fine - I've been using them still, since I've heard there're some problems with latest Catalyst and R300/R350/R360 cards.
