Flaky 3dmark03

Hi guys, finally got around to overclocking my system last night after DFI (finally) supplied me with a working BIOS chip. Got the system prime95 stable at 230 x 11 (have a locked multiplier) after changing timings to CAS3.

Did some experimenting on the graphics card too, all was well, but when it comes to what I think is the pixel shader test (the rhino and the elephant) sometimes I get lots of white dots in a grid pattern. Me and my friend managed to get his up to much higher speeds without any problems, but just wondered if anyone had any ideas where the problem might originate. I have a thermal sensor on the GPU and the temperature never went about 50C - was hovering around 45-47C most of the time.

Oh, did get it running stably at 420 / 360 - got about 6400 marks. Any good?

Thats a very respectable score. Is it like a chequerboard patern? because that sounds like a failed softmod, but you are running a 9800pro so there shouldn't be that problem.

does it do it not overclocked? if not then it jst means you've pushed it too far, I find the pixel shadr test one of the best ways to pick up errors when overclocked too high. you might try atitool as well, it has a tool to detect artifacts from too high an overclock

Nope, doesn't do it at all when it's not overclocked, works perfectly. Yes, it's like a chequerboard, spot on. I forgot to say - it was doing that at 430 / 380 GPU / RAM. Works ok on the speed in my siggy though. Think I should be happy enough with it?

Sorry to ask two questions at once, but how about the CAS latency, I thought that these Corsair sticks would happily run at at least 2.5 CAS at the speed i'm running them at?

it's a decent enough overclock, not worth worrying over a few percent really.

The only way to really find if a lower cas setting helps is to test it, try memtest, prime95 and a couple of games, my value select passes memtest and prime95 at cas2 but is unstable in games
