I would be more than happy to help in the benchmarking team, alongside whoever gets the "vote".

I trust Dan's decision (never seen it go wrong yet!) on the leadership, so I'll go with the flow, as it were!

As to educating the "youth", I'm not exactly that youthful these days......

ehhhh, I remember when I was a lad, my 286 topped out at 3 3DMarks....

I'm pretty much up to speed on 3DMark2000/2001, PCMark2002, and Sandra,and I'm investigating several other benchmarking programs just now as well.

Pops, you're welcome to do whatever it is you like around here (short of cussing out newbies or exercising your four letter word vocabulary ).

OK, it's like this, we don't actually know how to tell them apart and things get really scary and messed up when we try!

As you know cloasters is a member of staff. We try as staff to allow,were ever possible, members to take leadership positions. We feel this is a higher use of our memberships talent and abilities.

Staff tries to facilitate member leadership and help them to make connections where needed to get things done for our various teams and projects.

Other wise cloasters would indeed be an excellent choice":O}

Hey guys, I just stumbled on this and thought I might interject a few thoughts in here. It looks like the hornet's nest has settled but I had a few thoughts about leadership I wanted to put on record. I want to qualify this also in that I have really nothing to do with this topic. So you can take it or leave it.

Leadership is a strange road to walk down. It is the most visible position but really carries the least weight of most jobs. If you look at any successful leader he has employed the help of many around him specializing in the different areas that concern him. These people in turn will have a staff as well to help them. Case in point, look at the forum here. Daniel is the leader (D@mn good one I might add). He has the qualities of a good leader. He delegates the jobs of the forums to those who are able to complete the tasks at hand. In this case Daniel would be lost without Superman and Spode. (No special order intended there)
Those two are in charge of the forum really. They make the wheels turn and the page come up when you click on the button. Daniel employs a staff of people to help get an idea of what a cross section of the forum membership thinks. Half of us on the staff have no idea why we are there. What it boils down to is we are there because we are the cross section of the membership. Daniel throws out stuff and we chew on it in the staff and see how many different ways we can stretch it out. In the end Daniel looks at the pieces left over and makes his best decision on things based on the points made by the staff and based on his experience. He makes compromise based on our input and we press him to qualify and validate things. In the end it seldom looks the same as when it is brought to the table.

The example above can also be applied to our government, any larger corporate job situation, and even the Boy Scouts. All have one leader, that leader has a close staff. That staff have many under them.

Look at G.W. Bush, our President. He knows very little about running a government. He says so himself. When he was running for office he made comments to that effect. He also stated he would surround himself with a good staff to take care of these things. He knows he can't run the country or the government on his own. He is not on any power trip. What he does is to take the pieces given him from his sources and tries to figure out the best way to put them together. That's it.

In the end it doesn't matter how long you have been there or how much you know about the subject. It's all in knowing when to say/do something, and most of all when to NOT say/do something. What does matter is who is going to know this discretion and who will be smart enough to develop a staff and how to choose a staff. Your best staff members will challenge your thinking and disagree with you on a daily basis. (Just ask Daniel) :-D

I hope you guys get this ironed out and get a good leader in here. The topic is a valid one and it would be a loss to the forum to not have a benchmarking topic, as it is a very important topic for those who are looking for everything they can squeeze out of a set-up.
