But tell me, what is the up time now, these look to be fairly powerful machines, how long can you go unplugged with one?
With the battery I ordered and the GPU I ordered, about 6 hours of light use with all energy savings turned on, and about 3.5 hours of fullscreen DVD playback with decent brightness and GPU assistance.

EU ones are made in Ireland which is err fun, as even though ireland is right next to the uk and orders from dell have a stupidly long (and expensive) delivery charge as they do a magical mystorey tour of europe!
I seem to remember they go via france, belgum, denmark and then finally england.

Dunno where you heard that from matey. I recently ordered 3 systems form Dell, and I got them within 5 working days. Limerick -> Glasgow -> Destination Not too bad for a company that doesn't carry any stock.
Also most of the time I have seen on the Dell website there are deals that negate the delivery charge.

Is your D600 still under warranty?

I think many imported goods (or parts for assembly by Dell), come in to the British Isles via the big ports on the west coast of Ireland. Not just stuff for Dell.

It's likely that some types of goods are going to be put on smaller ships from there, and an English port may or may not be the first port of call.

Dell's European factories are in Ireland and Poland, Ireland taking care of Western Europe, and Poland taking care of the East.

I think this it the wrong conversation for that now....LOL

dsio...I'm with you if you want to storm the castle. It is a shame that a company like this can just piss on your shoes and expect you to just stand there and take it. Then to just ignore you or treat you as if you are some annoying fly in the baked goods is way too much.

They still have no idea where the parts are, or when they will be built, but are still taking orders.

They must of changed there shipping routes slightly then. Its from my original inspiron order back in 2001, and my axim a couple of years ago (and its many replacements) i tracked the thing via the couriers website, (ups i think) and i saw the thing leave ireland so expedicted to get it the next day for it to then appear in france, then belgium, then denmark and finally back in the uk (north east somewhere).

I think the delivery time then was a good 5 working days (7 actual) my first axim was as good as DOA, then they sent the wrong replacement!

And no the D600 is ages out of warrenty its a 2003 model. It needs a new battery, new charger and new chassis!

The hardware itself is solid just the rest of it has fallen apart

On behalf of Dell, allow me to apologize profoundly. Not signed by Mr Dell. Typical.

I've looked around, but this kind of fits perfectly. GPU is powerful enough without being too powerful (and thus power hungry), the T7500 2.2Ghz 4MB cache Core2Duo is a monster chip in a laptop...

The screen is a 13.3" white LED backlit LCD rather than an older CCFL type, it comes with 2GB ram (ive got 4GB here waiting to go in it) a 160GB hard disk, a dual layer 8X slot loading DVD burner integrated in the side, integrated webcam, dual mics, dual headphone outs, it has HDMI, IR, bluetooth, 802.11N, Wireless broadband, huge battery life, aluminium/magnesium casing, and weighs in at under 4lbs.

There just isn't a laptop that matches that. None in that size category are that light, hardly any have the WLED screen, hardly any have a slot loader DVD, battery life is often an issue, and HDMI is non existant.

Quite frankly its a beast.

Its like the Tiburon. Hyundai, make pure crap every day of the week. Their cars are boring, poorly built, poorly designed, and ugly. Then there's the Tiburon, a car that is simply the best sports coupe in its unbelievably reasonable price bracket.

There are many in this category, the Citroen SM, the Ford GT, even the original AMD Athlon, that stand out of the crud that is the rest of a company's products. The XPS M1330 is that. Its a halo product produced (and I use this word lightly) by accident, by morons, but its still brilliant.

The fact is the machine in my sig, beats the pants off the majority of people's desktop machines, and is an ideal Linux machine due to its very standardized hardware, and huge muscle.

Oh! That explains it then. The 802.11N card is what's keeping your machine delayed.

Maybe they mean the IEEE P802.11 n*/D2.0 Draft Amendment to 802.11? At least it's D2.

You know what I mean :P

On the Dell part list it appears as:

Intel(R) 4965AGN Wireless-N Mini-Card

My router, which is a DG834N supports draft N 270Mbit, and the little men at Netgear are willing to swear on a stack of bibles that I'll have no trouble getting that with this intel card.
