In which case, you're right back to the 'Wonderful Windows Security Model (tm)'. We all know how good THAT is.

WinXP had a fairly reasonably ordered control panel, and menus, and settings etc.

Vistas basically gone 'screw it' and thrown things wherever, then decided people should use a search tool to find things instead.

And as Gizmo mentioned. The point of UAC is security. If the choices are 'Alcatraz' and 'revolving door prison' then the operating system has failed on both accounts.

WinXP is an easy OS to use. Vista just isn't. Although the setup is harder, Linux when its running, is vastly easier and more user friendly than Vista is. I have both at the moment, so I'm in a good position to make the comparison.

Vista has just been nuked from the laptop, and is going on a spare machine for browser testing purposes.

Although its taken some playing around, as the hardware in this laptop is so new that drivers are just being released, Fedora 7 is now up (looking around, it seams I'm the first person to have Fedora 7 on an M1330).

It seriously is great running fedora on a laptop this powerful. So much muscle, in such a small package, with so much potential and flexibility.

Holy big screen shot batman.

That is some awesome stuff. Let's see some benchies on that thing later please. I love the Dell commercial BTW. Nothing like dropping a blown V8 into a laptop....hehe

So glad you finally got this Dsio... it has been painful reading...

Vista is, if you ask me, pretty similar to XP. It just looks a bit different, and things are named slightly differently which throws the brain off somewhat!

It seriously is though.

There is so much power in such a small laptop. 2.2Ghz 4MB cache Core2Duo, with 4GB dual channel DDR667. It absolutely dwarfs my old Pentium 3 1.2Ghz 512MB ram laptop.

I just have to say something. We all know how long dsio has waited for this and how much he's anticipated getting this lappy up and going...this we all know.

But what I want you to know as well is that dsio took the time AFTER it arrived to get Quake 4 up and running in MY Fedora!

We've all had new much awaited hardware, how many of could put it aside to help a friend ON the VERY DAY!!

dsio, you make AOA worth my time. dsio, you make quake4 run real good!
dsio, you have my thanks! 5 years of trying, brought to culmination on the day dsio lappy arrived, what could be more auspicious! LOL!

So you wouldn't want to know if Q4 CRASHED again? LOL!!
Everything about Quake in Fedora works once for me, then works no more! LOL
growing pains.

In case your wondering why I'm laughing? I LOVE Fedora! Even failing is starting to be interesting to me...because for the most part Fedora is a rock I can use to climb out of the MS cess pool! ":O}
What really gets to me is how many people gave away huge chunks of their time so I could!

It should be known that /usually/ Quake4 stops working after someone sticks his fingers in the config files :P

I think I know what the issue may be, and if I'm right, its just something that is also a problem on Windows machines (driver 3D settings disagreeing with game settings).

The review I'm planning is a review of it, as a Linux laptop. Nobody has really gone through it from that perspective, and since this laptop is in that high power ultraportable category, it particularly appeals to IT professionals, which are more likely to need Linux at least dual booting if not purely.

Still getting Fedora dialed in at the moment.

Have played Quake 4 on this thing though. Its pretty good.
