Economic Stilmulus Check

Woohoo. I just received my Economic Stimulus check.

I'm so pleased to learn that the folks in Washington D.C. think my vote can be bought with as little as $300 of MY OWN MONEY!

What a flippin' farce. If they wanted to REALLY stimulate the economy, they could have taken the money they spent on this little deal (about $140 Bn) and offered cash prizes for the first one to come up with, oh, a practical solar cell with 75% efficiency, or a cure for cancer, or any of a host of other things ($140 Bn could buy a LOT of cash prizes, even at $100 Mn a pop, which is pretty substantial).

Instead, they choose to engage in blatant vote buying, using money they CONFISCATED from US to start with!

But you know what's really, REALLY depressing?

We're stupid enough to fall for it.

I don't think so Giz-I haven't seen or heard anyone praising Bush or the "party" for this eco farse, we spend or save [bought my upgrade] but the idea behind it is juvenile and most see that. When all is said and done, $300 realy doesn't help the economic situation of the individual or family. If he had some real leadership and vision [who am I talking about!] he would have put that money where it would have real impact. National Debt, Global Warming, Aids, Cancer, Hunger. Instead I build a computer. Important stuff.
Are most people from Texas that dumb?

Thank you for making my point.

BUSH DIDN'T DO JACK!

Well, ok, the proposal came from the administration, but that's about it.

CONGRESS CREATES law. CONGRESS CREATES taxation policy. CONGRESS DECIDES how money gets spent. The Executive may say, "I'd like for us to spend some money on this", but without CONGRESSIONAL approval, it won't happen.

However, you did EXACTLY what the Democrats were counting on: you blamed it on the Bush administration (and by extension, the Republican party). And many Republicans are doing EXACTLY what the Republicans were counting on: thanking the Bush administration (and by extension, the Republican party).

This, all despite the fact that the bill was passed by a significant majority in BOTH parties; in fact, they were falling all over each other to see who could add the most money to the pie, before cooler heads finally prevailed.

Your question would be better phrased, 'Are most people in Congress that dumb?'.

You've forgotten the real deal. Politics. What politics is in a nut shell is a trading game. I will give you your deal today if you vote for mine a month from now. This is Bushes deal. He Thunk it up and made some deal with congress so they would get bill through without any flack from the white house. That is why you've seem him personally praising these checks. He thunk it up-he gonna take credit. He good guy.
And I acually voted for him the first time. I'm voteing Obama this time. I'm sick of republicans.

Republican/Democrat, same **** different lies. It's all about getting more for themselves regardless of the sign they fly under.

I came up from having nothing, fought (literally) for what I managed to acquire and wanted to keep. Now that my bros and I have finally made it, bringing our families out of the ghetto with us , they want to give out 300 bucks. I owed $387 in taxes this year so it made me feel good to give the check back to them, they need it worse than I do. If GW wants to stimulate me, I got an idea for him....

Yeah, I'm voting Libertarian. I'm sick of Democrats and Republicans both. Obama is just a different brand of Vaseline as far as I'm concerned; I'm still going to get bent over so that the special interests can get their piece.

Obama just did it for me-I was realy hopeing to. Screw `em all. He just offerd the american people $1000 dollars if they vote for him. Ya, it's because gas is to high, and interest raates are to high, and yada, yada, it's worded a different way but that is what it is. When he becomes president the working taxpayer will get a rebate of $1000. He is buying votes and no one is saying a darn thing about it.
I'm voteing for that idiot Ralph Nader!

And just as with the 'Economic Stimulus' package, our votes are being bought with our own money.

I don't which sickens me more; the fact that these politicians think a cheap stunt like this is worth trying, or the fact that it apparently works well enough to make it worth trying.

Honestly? I probably am. But I'm rapidly approaching getting royally pissed off.

As Daniel has observed before, history is not made by reasonable men.

The stats came out tonight that the stimulus checks did not help the economy.
" Gosh darn, Jethro, who could a thunk that? Texas boys said it would."
Stock market drops in reaction to the news.
Why is this a surprise?

Not really. I got $300 that was my own money and you mom got $600 that was her own money and I upgraded my computer, don't know what your mom did, but bottom line is that it did nothing for the economy. Any idjet that grew up outside of Texas could have figured that out!

[to those that are from the 2nd largest state, forgive me]
