Question laptop mod/addition

I'm planning to expand my laptop by adding and additional zip drive and a 160gb hard drive. But i want both pieces of hardware internal. Plus, I need to add a cooling fan to the memory chip its running too hot.

The laptop i have is an HP Pavilion zt1130, Celeron 1.13GHz with 1Gb Ram, 20GB hard drive, No floppy, and a DVD RW. Running XP Pro.

The only way i can make the additional drives internal is by creating a small box to attach from the bottom. The box height would be slightly higher than the extra hard drive. My options of making this to be recongnized by the system is using a usb connection, which the laptop has two from the back and one in the side. Pretty much by having a short usb wire connecting both.

I would like to make the box slanted. Otherwords it would only lift the laptop from the back end not the whole thing. This would be like a docking station but universal with any laptop that I would upgrade to later.

My delimma:
How would i connect these devices together within the box? To one usb wire.
And, How would i go about connecting it to a power source? Thinking that this addition would just kill the battery.

How do i go about this?

If you want to know why i want to make this mod? Well I run 3d studio max 5, 3d max viz, MAYA, Autocad, Macromedia MX Studio, Coldfusion MX and i have a 5GB IT Library. Running out of room. And i do not like the idea of having so-many devices sitting on my desktop. Just trying to consolidate room on my desk.

man..modding a laptop is a big no no. It is very trickey and you have a very high lieklyhood of just plain killing it al ltogether. and plus there is prety much zero room for this and there are no wires in there so conect power too, although i have only torn apart old lappys becasue you jsut dont open up a good laptop. and most of tohse mem chips sit so close between PCB and the case plastic that there is no room for a fan. jsut get a better hard drive for it and buy one of those cooling pads and put the laptop on that.
