Shrink wrap cable stuff

the overclocking store do a mesh braided cover for the unsightly PSU cables and recommend that you close the ends with this shrink wrap stuff:
http://www.theoverclockingstore.co.u...?codeid=812791

It's sold in 3ft quantities which seemed a little over the top for closing the ends of braided parts and there's no picutre to enlighten me. Anyone know what the deal is with this stuff? I want to use the braiding on my PSU cables and I'm wondering what I need 3ft lengths for.

its vinyl heat shrink tubing, and can be found at the shack as well as other electronic stores.

IT's probably standard heatshrink tubing.

For example, Maplin do such products. The following is a link for heatshrink tubing with meltable adhesive on the inside: http://www.maplin.co.uk/products/mod...08&modulecode=

Standard heatshrink is http://www.maplin.co.uk/products/mod...01&modulecode=

Other places do such things - for example Farnell.

Not to worry, you'll use up the three feet of heat shrink stuff over time.

so basically I would use the braiding to cover the cables. then cut like an inch of heatshrinking stuff to put on the end then seal the ends right?

Basically, yes! You do have a hairdrier or other device that'll produce hot air, right?

Hot air guns are generally not recommended, unless you can turn their temperature down to about 90C.

I work for B&D and just loaned a heatgun for a job yesterday. 1600W is probably a bit excessive but it's got 2 heat settings and you can just control it with distance.

I'll have a look at maplins. They may be cheaper but they charge delivery.

Well thanks for the info guys. I ordered a length of braiding and a length of the heatshrink tubing from OCS.

I'll probably write a short article on using it either for spode or for the articles section of the forum when I ge tthe hang of using it.

I've used shrink tube a few ways myself. Two unstated ones are to use it on 2 or 3 wire items such as fan tails, ect. instead of braid or loom. The other it to use it after a splice. Cut a piece of shrink tube longer than both stripped ends of wire. Twist and tin your wires than solder them together with no clean solder and flux. Clean them off with some IPA and slide the tubeing into place. Hit it with a heatgun or a blowdryer and you'll have a splice thats ISO worhty.
