Yes, DIMM1 works. It was really weird...I knew something was up when i got graphic glitches on start-up, but i thought maybe it was just a corrupt driver. But the symptoms really did not make any sense...so as I thought about it, I told my wife, "Here, come take a look at this..."

Anyway, the board the proc is currently in has a diagnostic LED, and it always paused just after C1, with an 04 code...only when mem was inserted into DIMM1, but on 4 different boards.

Then i noticed that it had looked like the L2 cache was off when in windows last night...code 69.

So, after having it off all night, I said to my wife.....
At which point i grabbed the second mem module, popped it back in, turned the machine on, expecting it to pause right after C1.....and it kept going. I've rebooted numerous times now, and here i sit using DIMM1...tried to fully load the mem with some rendering, and it worked no prob. So very very weird.
Best i can think, is that somehow the part that regulated that DIMM, and possibly the L2 cache, had been shut off due to heat, or an overclocking attempt, but I was told "No! I don't overclock nothing!"
While it cooled, it must have turned that part back on, or something. Cool and Quiet may be the cause...maybe...it wierd...but i'm glad it works now.

Not really a case mod accident, but wierd ....

alright, so im taking the fan grill off of my powersupply. this is back about /12 year ago, and it was plugged in. i didnt know that you could get hurt by a powersupply(BIG MISTAKE) so i take the grill off and open the powersupply. i see two big metal plates, so i touch it, ZAP! so later that day, im screwing the fan back in, i drop the screw. its still plugged in(noob mistake) so i reach in with my magnetic tip screw driver. im not holding the handle, im holding the metal shaft. i touch the metal plate again. ZAP! no more playing with my powersupply. thats probably my worst moddign experience besides putting my hand into a newly cut blowhole. cuts all over my hand.

You can get a shock from some things when they aren't even plugged in.

i think that the only real case mod disaster is when i was testing a 40mm fan and the wire for it was bare and it hit the side of the case and shorted out. then i was mad when radioshack charged me $16 for a new one when the shelf said it was $8, and i didnt know until i opened it and had already left, so that made me mad. ive also blown quite a few leds. i didnt know you needed resistors when i was younger.

I got cheap acer veriton 3200 setup for $340 but i wanted to use a proper height gfx card so i whacked the whole thing into a standard case. But then i needed to use a half height gfx card i had sitting around and it didn't go too well with case so i had to cut out some back pieces and what not. Anyway i must have accidently flipped a switch on the power supply with my shoulder(old psu) and didn't notice, after finishing up i went to turn it on and BANG!!!!.

This has nothing to do with case modding but my new speakers died on me a few weeks ago and i don't know how so i got my phillips head out and had a poke around for about an hour.....i plugged it back in and turned it on but nothing, so i played around with it again(with it plugged in and turned on oops!) and all of a sudden this huge BANG!!!! and pieces of crap flying everywhere(flashing lights even ). I literally did a backflip out of my lounge chair.

i dont remember anything goin wrong wiht my stuf..other than my keyboard with my mx duo...i spilt juice on it and some of the buttons dont work..and when i install drivers for it, it doesnt really do anything..it just opens "open url" and the charger for my mx700 doesnt work anymore.. so iv gone trough like 30 AA bateries in a bit...could be just the rechargable batteries...iv broken a couple cheap old mics..and i broke a fan blade of my stock amd 64 cooler.. broke of another 2 to stabilioze it. nut i got a new HSF anyways
onr of my 17" crts died somehow.. the power led just blinks...
and one comp has 2 sticks of 32 and shows up as 48 mb.. weird.. used to show up as 64.

btw matt im curios about that comp on fire there....

Lets see now.....
Case modding....most recent...KILLED a Power Drill!!! (See my post Oops!!)

Tinkering...looking to see if the dodgy fan on a Graphics card was spinning or not, (it was, but I was right, it was about to fail.) took a flashlight, and a handy technicians mirror (like a dental mirror) unfortunately NOT covered in insulating material (it is now.) Felt the mirror brush against something, looked to see what it was....hmmm, the back of the sound card....thats torn it.
Blown sound card, PCI slot no longer working.

Chipped the core of an Athlon 1100Mhz T-Bird....seems to work OK though. Dont even know when it might have happened.

Trying to get data off a friends dodgy HDD, it had been pulling his system sideways for a while, so that it would crash after about an hour, I eventually figured that the drive was going west, plugged it into my own PC (Bigger PSU) Retrieved about 10Gb of Data, then it pulled my rig down too.
Disconnected the dodgy drive, powered up, seemed fine.
A few days later, backing stuff up on my own PC, with HD and CD Burner both spinning....the PC spontaneously re-boots without warning. It did this consistently until I replaced the PSU.

Fried an old v2.0 AGP Graphics card without Universal connector into a v1.0 AGP slot....killed the Card.

Apparently, (I have no recollection of this.) I was drunk and tweaked a friend of mines PC until it would no longer work....tweaked to death. He knows very little about PC's and sent it to the store he got it from to get fixed, they charged him to tweak the OS and BIOS back into shape, or whatever they did.
He wont let me near his PC now, even though sober I kind of know what I'm doing. I'm sure it wasnt me!!!!

My first dual boot experiment.
Bought and installed a new HD, Installed Win2K on it while it was the only HD plugged in, tinkered for a while, re-booted using my old HD, (with them both plugged into the same IDE channel) watched in disbelief as Win2K scandisk ran and "Corrected" errors on the Win98se HD...at the speed of light, without giving me the option to say Nooooooo!!!!!
Result....had to buy "GetDataBack" to recover stuff from the Win98se disk which had had its FAT messed up by the NTFS disk scan and "repair"
Good software that is, and cheap.

As a Professional Lighting Technician I have been party to and witnessed (and also had to do tech support for the trainwrecks of) plenty of "Technical misbehaviour"
Ever heard of people finding a screwdriver rolling around in their brand new from the store PC that arrived and never worked? or had a strange rattle?
I've lost LOTS of tools like that, including at least two expensive Fluke Multimeters!!
Ever tried to discharge a bank of capacitors by shorting them to a chassis with a screwdriver? DONT!!!! I've seen the remains of the screwdriver!!!

More technical trainwreck tales to tell, but maybe another forum or another time.
