used case

went to RE-PC(REcycledPC stuff) and found a used Koolance 601BW
case. it had leaked for the previous owner and was marked down $100.
got it home , cleaned it up a bit(uv die is messy!)I'll get some pics to
show the 'leak test'. I made sure the res was full, put a 100W lamp
under the cpu block and ran it for 48hrs. 27c and no leaks.
will continue the saga when Mr. Barton arrives this week!

I figured out what caused the leaking. the koolance uses 1/4in od barbs
on everything. the previous owner used short pieces of 1/4id-3/8od
tubing on the barbs. then slide 3/8id over with a hose clamp. the clamps
were loose when i checked them. I just made sure everything was tidht
before powering up the pump.
the temp probe will be the next test. I think I will put the heat source
closer to the probe. this way I can test the features of the koolance
system.
This may well be a review of sorts. at least I own it and won't have to
sugar coat it!

I am happy to say the Koolance functions just the
way it's supposed to. put the heat source closer to
the temp probe in order to simulate an overheating
situation. @45c the fans went into high speed, 50c
the first high temp alarm sounded. 55c resulted in a
more persistant alarm. @60c system shutdown. and
now for a propper hw install as Mr. Barton is in the
house.

Nice! So how much did you pay in total for a complete Koolance?? It does indeed look good.

When will you be installing the Barton?

paid $140US. it had no psu but I have a few. I am
thinking of putting the Barton on the 8K5A2+. it has
a 1700+ @170*10.5 now so I know there is fsb for
the barton. the 8K5A2+ is in my first H2O rig and it
is time to fix a few things in that case.
I would really like another 8RDA+(rev 2) to take
advantage of the dual channel mem. I can wait a
bit. have 4 MSI KT266 that need some more of my
time to be added to the 'fold'. more on that later!
