motherboard grounding??

hi all!!
i work with alot of potentialy very cool case type things and was wondering if they would work? my problem is i am worried about grounding or lack of.
dose the motherboard need to be grounded? and if not why do the manufactures surround the screw holes with metal?
i know its one of those rookie questions but i usualy jump into projects without thinking of the little things.and yes, it has bit me in the a** a few times.

Yes, the motherboard should be grounded. A good ground plane helps to stabilize signals on the motherboard. For normal operation you will probably never notice the difference, but if you start overclocking to a significant degree you will generally find the mobo to be more stable when installed into a grounded chassis.

Errr.......probably not. You need a ground PLANE, as in a piece of sheet metal. If you don't have one, then the wiring would be superflous, and MIGHT even be counterproductive (creating ground loops and whatnot).

wheel

hi all!!
i have been eyeing up a power cable spool at work a big wheel with a slab on either end. this one is tall enough for a computer desk. and i want to put the comp inside it.then slather the whole thing in bondo or fiberglass and sand and paint. i can get a sheet of metal for the board, i just thought it needed to be in contact with the power supply .
thanks for the info!!

The case of the PSU will be tied to earth ground internally. If you take your piece of sheet metal and ground it to the case of the PSU, and then mount your mobo on that, you should be in duck soup, as that is the same way that your PC case is done.
