Need a price estimate

Hey guys sorry if this is not the right place for this post, I really couldnt decide what the right section would be so mods please feel free to move it...

Well basically someone from the carpc community has hired me to basically just put all the parts for his pc together and into a case he has bought for it, now its not a regular case, it is much small than a normal case will take more time to install in, but I have never been paid to do anything like this before and was wondering if any of you guys could give me an idea as to what I should charge for this

Thanks

Just put it together or install all the software as well? If your just putting it together then I would charge $30~$40 Maybe less maybe more. Just BE SURE that you don't gaurentee it's going to work. You didn't purchase the parts so it's NOT on you.
$.02

I take it this person isn't very "tech" savy.

no there seem to be alot of those in the carpc community, there are the very tech savvy (little fabrication experience), some with great fabrication and no tech, and other who have neither but want the cool factor.... then of course the limited few who have a little bit of both

If it is a friend then make him do it and watch him and supervise. If it is a friend of a friend or an aquaintance then charge $50. Do it at his house at his kitchen table with him watching, then make sure it POST and start him on the software install.

If it just some guy that saw yours and wants you to do his, run away. Run away quickly. He will most likely expect you to be free tech suport for the rest of your life. And anything that goes wrong with it must be your fault.

Someone who does this for a living would charge at least $100, some will charge much more.

$50 sounds very fair to me.

When i build pc's, I charge a straight $65/hour, regardless of friend or foe. I do no favors, and then get asked none. I provide a warranty on all my work tho.

AND I DO NOT INSTALL WINDOWS, WITHOUT CHARGING EXTRA!!!
$150 just for windows install, drivers, and defrag afterwords.

Don't settle for less than you think you are worth...ever.

Like others are saying, don't get roped in to being his "computer guy" for nothing. If you want to charge him that's fine, but you will regret any promises of free help. Also, it is best to tell him all of this up front, before you start anything so he doesn't expect it and get mad when you won't help. If you don't plan on helping him get windows up, put it together and leave after it POSTs.

Hey, tell him if he needs help to come here and join. He might learn a few things, or even fold.
