Internal Fan Stack

I've got an idea for cutting down on fan noise I'd like to run by you folks. I have a 152mm Comair Rotron fan I plan to use for a top exhaust fan. I'm thinking about mounting it under a section of A/C ducting hanging from the case top. The idea being that if the fan is 4-5" below the top of the case and blowing through the ducting to the outside it "should" reduce the noise from the fan (rated at 54db).

Anybody seen anything like this?

(and yes I do have a large tower case)

Interesting idea, but also keep in mind that sound (or in this case noise) travels through air, and make sure you point the fan that will blow the air out somewhere away from you.

Also I think I understood you clearly, but a diagram would help too!

Yep, thats exactly how I understood it. Here is what I meant by direction of the air stream. I think its a great idea and you should try it . However, the case is made out of metal and will allow the noise to bounce off it. I don't knowif I'm right but you know how you take a piece of paper, and roll it into a tube, then yell into it, it will make your voice very loud... could something like this happen with the fan? ( I realize that sounds crazy, but lets not make anything louder)

not sure about how it will work. first I have the get the duct pieces.

Oe thing I am sure of is that I will need so gasket material to absorb vibration. I could end up with a very loud metallic rattle or buzz if I don't dampen it somehow.

True, as long as that duct will absorb noise and stuff, you'll be fine.
