Military Case

This is the case I finished in one week for my Brother-in-law Preston.
I'm mailing it to Alabama this weekend.

The Airbourne parachute stencil for the window. Designed in AutoCAD

Painted sidepanels. I added a blowhole to the top panel and the back panel since there was a hole beside the motherboard.
I also used a hammered finish black spray paint. Turned out awsome because its glossy.

I just applied a nice coat of thermal paste with a painting palette knife.
This tool works great for getting an even coat.

Final painted window

Here is the gif I found on an airbourne website.
I just traced it in CAD and printed out on two 8x11 pieces of paper

Here is the final case. I'm pretty happy with my one week (well maybe two) mod.

After mailing the case ($55 shipping costs) from Arizona to Alabama, it still works perfectly.
NO damages, or re-installing of hardware.
Thanks to FedEX.
Preston loves the computer and is enjoying all the free games I installed on it.
I also purchased a $1000 insurance for an extra $10.
Not bad.

Hey, I found some more pics of the Military Case.

Here is the origional case. Its just a generic ATX made of aluminum.
But worked out great after painting it and modding it. Lots of dust...
Military Case-old-case.jpg
After taking everything off, this is the aluminum chassi. Quite frail and wobbly without the panels on. I didn't have time to paint it, so I left it origional and cleaned it off.
Military Case-naked-chassi.jpg
Here is the origional outline of the airbourne symbol for parachuting.
As I said earlier, it was traced on with a marker after printing it out on paper from CAD. I decided to take out the parachute because it would make the window much smaller and kinda ruin the whole point of having a window.
Military Case-window-outline.jpg
I used a small punch bit and a drill to do all the pilot holes. These allow me to get the jigsaw bit in and start cutting. What a paint to cut all the curves when you can mostly cut straight....
Military Case-window-holes2.jpg
I'm painting away with my fancy spraybooth. You probably noticed that I am trying to keep the airbourne mood with my camos on.

That's pretty neat looking. I haven't done any case modding before. Might be fun to try.

Welcome to AOA forums.
thanks for the compliments. This mod was mostly the window and paint job, but the window took a lot of time because of the detail. Using hand files can take a long time but the results will turn out great.

If you decide to do a mod, start with an old case or extra case. There is nothing worse than taking the sidepanels off your working supercomputer, messing up, and then getting upset every time you see your computer.
