Latest Mod & Full System Build

Well it's that time again.... I haven't built a computer for here in the house for a couple months. I have built quite a few systems this year but, they have all left the building. This started out to be just a little gamer for Matt's friends when they come over. It was to be based on an Epox 4PDA2+ Ver.2 running a 2.8C and 2 x 512 G.Skill PC4400LE.

As I modded out the case I actually fit the motherboard in and was finishing out the build even taking pictures along the way. I let the wife chose the colors inside and out for the case. It was a happy time in our little world.
Then one dark, cold and dreary night, we were all huddled in our computer room feeling all snug and warm happily computing together. Yes it was just the 3 of us. We had no idea what would happen next..........
There was a loud knock at the front door. We just sat there completely starled by the loud knock. And then there was another knock.
I peered out the curtain through the dining room window. I was surpised to see it was my best friend. Why had he not called and said he was coming by. I opened the door to greet him only to see his face wretched in horror. I brought him into the house and poured him some hot coffee to warm him up. I asked what was wrong. He fought back the emotions and told me, " My motherboard is sick real sick " Could you take a look at it? So I bundled up and went with him. Well his board was dead when we got there. May his Abit IS-7 rest in peace. It was hard for me too. I had brought that sytem into this world. So to get him up and running fast I put my Epox board into his system. And since I am still waiting for another Epox RMA ( But only til Hell freezes over) I went another direction on the build.

Now let's set up the Mod.....

As you all know I would rather spend money on good hardware than a Case!! I believe if you are going to call yourself a modder then you ought to be one.

So I had a second $15 dollar case here and it is time to cut it and do it again..

The case.

$15 from geeks.com store Sweet!!

More later...Time for food!!

Bigger holes!

Well I cut out for the rear fan once again. I put a blow hole in the top
I made this one a 90mm and I cut a very large window into this side cover.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../IMG_3157a.jpg
Before we get to the sides and top let me show you what color the wife chose for the inside of this case!!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/IMG_3200.jpg
This time when I cut out the HDD rack I rmounted it so the drives would ride vertically in the case. Taking far less room allowing for today's largest cards.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/IMG_3198.jpg
Oh yes it is very pink!!!

She has no idea when the blue lights hit it that it will be blue!

Her pour table has been abused over the years!! Modding means not having time to cover stuff properly!!

I told I would paint that table this year

Back to it.

Well I have to tell you This is the fifth case this year that is this same shade of blue!!! Something about it and women. My wife implored me to use tis shade of blue again for a system that was going to stay here.
Man it makes them buy right now!! I have sold mopre to women this year then men. So once again.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/IMG_3201.jpg Blue!!!!

As you will see in these next pics this system was all but ready to go as a P-4 all it lacked was the side window being cut out.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/IMG_3245.jpg
Note: I even took the time to paint the IDE cables pink too.
The wife gave me an atta boy for that!!

It was the next night I ripped it all apart for my friend

But, Then I saw the price of Memory was dropping like a rock!!
My Beloved G.Skill 6400HZ was down to $159!! At Newegg
So I decided to move forward...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...231-065-02.jpg
And I decided to get myself an Asus P5NE-SLI to play with.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...zqAn_1_6_l.jpg
I dropped my 7900GT onto it as I just upgraded my main system to the 8800GTS 320. I had a little thermaltake 430 watt psu. It has a pci 6 prong plug. Now it is only 430 watts but it's rails are just stellar. So don't go raving about 600 watts plus. It is not needed!!!!!!!

I had a 160 gig HDD that has XP-Pro and is loaded with virtually everything I have on my main computer.
A floppy drive, and a nice LG DVD-RW. Of course a Nexus fan Controller and I was ready to go!!! Just picked up a nice Envision 17In. LCD Monitor
$149

This is really shaping up to be a real budget system

We'll just have to see if it has any pizazz!

Together

Well the pieces went together very well. It was time to light a fire (so to speak)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/IMG_3373.jpg
Remember with this D9 memory I recommend running a fan over it always for the best clocks! Here is a look at the case on the job!!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...a/IMG_3371.jpg
Pretty................
OK but, how does it clock? you ask?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...Zilla/p5ne.jpg
This is a sweet Motherboard!! Fun to work with. That 462 fsb was at only 1.55V and the mem was set at only 2.256. all other voltages set to auto.

WZ

PS Chris you need to go look at the AQMK3 thread and the 3D01SE
That single 8800GTS exploded on this seen!!!

That is one nice 15 dollar case WZ.

Reminds me of the simpler days of modding. I like it.

I agree. I still like the "old School" mods. Simple, clean and nice to look at. Again very nice.

Hey booman, Well they dont make the 7900GT now so I figured an 8800GTS 320mb into the price and it comes out to 873 for the case and all that is in it. Add to that the envision lcd I am using with it (1280X1024)
8ms and you toatal out at $1018. You know I remnember when you could go to the store and buy a complete Compaq system monitor and all based on the P-2 233 and it was $2700. I think prices have fallen just a little bit!! It is a real sweet set up booman. Easy to clock up and it doesn't need much voltage to achieve these clocks either. Very nice Folder Sam!!!!! Right now I am folding running at 400FSB for a speed of 3200mhz with my mem running 1:1 and timings of 4-3-3-4 @ 1T
My cpu voltage is set to 1.44 and my mem is set at 2.156 all other voltage sttings are on auto. this little Air cooler has it running at 45/46C
It is a little sweetie this one..........

Glad to hear that you have the little sweetie Folding away. I would hate to think you have all that horse power sitting in the garage wasting away.

Fold on WZ.....

Nice set up Weldzilla!
Great price too.
Here is the new system I'm building in my modded case.
Its going to cost me about $1100 without a monitor since I'm buying next gen hardware. I've seen some of those 7900GT on new egg.
I'll check again...

You know I finished out the fans so I thought I should put the last pics up on this mod and get ready for another. I did 2 of these cases and they were just a dream to work with! So here is the final shot. That is 2 x 90mm fans and 1 x 120mm in the side window. This board with it's giant NB heatsink that really makes heat needs this to keep all the heat in check. If you do that then this board will reward you with great results!!
Here is the side view now.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../IMG_3646a.jpg
You know you think it would be very loud but it really isn't. It does however cool very well.
Check out the speed and temps.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...Zilla/yups.jpg
I heard from those who thought the case was junk without ever touching it or working with it. I have heard from many that this motherboard was junk. In both instances I found the opposite to be true.
This case has plenty of room inside and was easy to work with. The case is quite light yet sturdy. The 1st one was $29 including shipping.
This one was $24 including shipping.
Hope to start yet another mod before too long. See you back here in the mod section then.

WZ

What system is in the last pic? What motherboard, i'm thinking of stepping into dual core and dont have a lot of cash to throw around (price of living on ones own i guess) I want to buy something that will clock. And 475mhz FSB looks pretty sweet.

Sweet looking mods too btw mate, I better get back into I think.
