Hard drive base angle question.

IN my rig that In cleaning up the inside for air flow, there are a number of things that need to make as little a foot print as possible. The hard drives I can hang them in there case at an angle [about 80 degrees or less.] would this cause harm to the drives? one S-ata and one P-ata.
I do have another option of installing another HDD bracket, bringing them down to the floor where there is little that will cause to much turbulence. Don't know which Way to go. so i need some one who knows hard drives'
I;ve never heard the subject be for so I;m guessing a new bracket but would like to know why.

Should run in any orientation. I once ran one upside-down for years because the power cable wouldn't quite reach and inverting it made it possible. It probably wasn't ideal for cooling the thing but it worked fine.

Certain orientations of the drive can have a slight but measurable performance impact on seek times (or at least used to back when heads were much larger and thus weighed more), but I've never known it to impact the reliability of the drive (at least, not since the days of 12" platters).

That's good news and the drives get better cooling than if I wound have put them in another bracket. They will have an 80mm blowing directly on the s-ata 300G with the 160G picking up some air from the front case fan and directing it upwards,

I'm pretty sure I've read something to the effect of "only run them at these angles and NOT these angles" It was years and years ago soooo wether that applies now or not I do not know.

Maybe goto the manufacturers web site and see if you can download some spec's from them?

I poked around the WD website looking at different drives and programs and specs but found nothing relateing to oreantation. I went ahead and mounted mine at about an 80 degree angle and it doesn't seem to bother them-yet.

So far I've found this.

**edit**
Ok found this see page 33/56 (page 25 of the manual). Looks like for a Seagate drive you can put it anyway you like it.

It would seem to me, from the info of our own resident guru's. the info robbie found, and the opinions of other guru's (of course they aren't as good as ours! That's a given!) the consensus is that hard drives die. Go buy a new one.
