EVGA 790i Ultra mod has started!

I got the board yesterday along with 4 aftermarket heat sink sinks. The minute I saw the Therlright chipset cooler, I knew I was in trouble. There wasn't any way it was going to fit on the chipset next to my CPU cooler! I ended up haveing to swap HSF's but haven't had time to do any testing yet. Here are some pics of it on the test bench. One pic has a hint to the mod I'm makeing. I'm takeing pics as I go and will be able to post all when done or if people want I can post a few at a time.

Post your pictures away PPM!
I prefer as you go so I can see the progress being made, but also want pics of the final product too! I want it all! LOL
I like looking at pictures of rigs & they do say a thousand words when it comes to a build!

Btw, I'm very happy that all your stuff worked out of the box when you got it!!!

It should clock very well with the after market chipset fan/heatsinks!

Ok, here is the beginng. I'm going to go down and start puting in the board as soon as I get done here.. There will be at least one and mabe two concentricly smaller circles as the build rises to hang from the ceiling. No vent problems with this one!
The retan box with the switch plate is where the PSU will be, I havent decided wheth it will be inside or out side. Engineering as you go!
I can also clean up the joining of the two nets once I get the motherboard strapped in and can put in the second circle.
The odd pic is the original chipset cooler. I had a fan on the lge fins.

Don't blink because it doesn't take me that long! 2, maybe 3 days tops!
Bottom level is almost complete. There might be a few things I might alter but they can wait..!
Second level was first boult as a circle but spaceing and balance problems were driveing me nuts so I threw in the square. It has it's draw backs too. decided to jus pile the drives and PSU on the second leve so I could have my rig and contimplate just what I want to do going up. New pics.
The first one is where i saw my idea of all round just wasn't going to fly. So I changed to a sq 2nd floor that I still neeed to tweak but it holds the PSU and the drives in a pile so i can F@H for a while and rest. [Been putting this thing together since about 4 this morning.]

Not done but the over all basics are done-Darn thing won't pick up DVD drives-single or pairs-I've had that problem before on boards with only 1 IDE channel but I've forgotten! Pics

Please put the pictures of this mod into the archives or bury them in the back yard. ( Who has the responcibility fore that?)
The Hanging mod is dead.
The net and the cane circles are in the dumpster. [Almost lost a PSU in the shuffle!]
Everything is back in the BOX. I haven't got the IDE channel to recognise anything yet but who cares. I'll play with that later.
No more fish nets. It was fun, and not to bad......... for a 6th grade class.
Just hade a light bulb moment!!
Anyone want to by a fishnet case? Plenty of ventalation and I can still get it from the dumpster-I'll throw in the stained glass and the rubber coated hook!

Nice to see you try something completely different....
That was a pretty abstract mod.... Not sure if I like it or not, but I love your enthusiasm!
why did you toss it out?

I know what you mean about likeing it or not!

I never thought for a second I was or would want to keep that one. I built it on a whim and just for the fun of it. That also means learning what I did wrong in my design in case there comes a time I build one for real. It has some real potential if built right.

It came down because I wanted to get eveything set up and stable so I can catch a breather-pay a little more attention to Mareen for a while, she needs it.

AND THEN!!
Remember the pet carrier mod? That was one that started on a whim and turned out beter than I had any right to expect. But it was a first design. I made mystakes and learned from those mystakes.

After some down time, I'm going to start a new pet carrier mod. When I get done with this one-it's going to be a keeper. Every atribute a hardcore gammer could ask for! Well not all-I Don't care about that!
it's going to be a beat!

Cool, I'll be looking for your Carrier mod. Hopefully there will be a cat inside....
I think its a great idea to try different mods just for "trial and error" to learn what you can and can not do with computers. You definitely get credit for that.
Most of my mods are probably too planned out and I miss out on some sparadic ideas that could make them more interesting than just artistic.

Here is something ,a couple of things, that might help you,
The first is think outside the box and in this situation, that is meant literaly. No computer cases of any kind-don't look at the mags-no web browsing looking for ideas. Your mind is locked into the box. Start looking in the odd places. The thrift store is great, and don;t try to imagine the mod right a way. Look at stuff and imagine how they might be of some use. Two round speaker covers might make good fan covers and at a $1.25 it's worth it. Pretty soon, if you have let your imagination have some freedom you have half a box of cr+p and some wher you wiill see something and away you go.

i knew a guy who built a laptop in a Domino's Pizza box. H e would just smile and say people break into cars and steal computers. Who ever broke into a car and stole a pizza?

No looking at mods or cases. When you read your Bible, instead of trying to learn a leson. this time try to place yourself on that spot,at that time. try to invision the items that are being used by the people there. maybe you can use or adapt.

Think outside the box-give it a try. Just for fun. I very seldom spend much. I do know this time I won't be scrimping to much I want this mod to last.
Don't cheat!

That is great advise because usually the first thing I think of is "how will the hardware mount in that?"
So you are saying to think about the case first and it doesn't even have to be boxy....
I've been wanting to do a computer mod with an item that is a livingroom appliance or decoration, but doesn't look like a computer. Like in a chair or coffee table, or even an ottoman. No one knows there is a computer inside...

There you go! You're half way there. I didn't think you would have an idea.
Don't decide whiche one you want to do-that will come all by itself.
You've got a great idea and a great spot to let it percilate and the right one will come to the top. I think you probably know, when you are relaxed, sitting there watching TV or reading, that is when you think about each piece. The pro's and cons. which will be the most work, all that stuff but a little at a time. a little when some kid has just grasped what you have been trying to teach him.
Just a little while at a time, at different times, Then there will come a moment that you will know. It will be clear and without question-you will see it in your head and you can feel that it is the right one.
It's fun.
