I found a 8.5 x 11.125 kit for $9. I'm going to go with the Lazer LED's for $20. Cheaper, and brighter than a pair of Cold Cathode tubes. This thing is gonna be sweet.

I just striped my case and rebuild it, you could say. I took a few pictures showing my mods. I will have more up next weekend, after the drives are painted and the window and light is in.

Very nice! I am planing on getting an Antec full Server Case so that I can have a water cooler in it. It will also give me plenty of drive bays of space, so I can have my DD5 and also have a baybus for lights and whatnot.

Any reccomendations on GOOD PRICED lighting stores online?

well i think its finally finished.... i thought i would see what the rest of the world thinks :-D the design for the window took me a whole week and it was a **** to make the door actually slide on too (thank god for dremels eh?) this project started when i decided to add that 120mm fan and kept going.... i'm hoping the extra cooling will let me push my p3 all the way up to 1.13Ghz though right now its running at 975mhz since i am running my HSF minus the F
http://www.zianet.com/edevall/case1.jpg
http://www.zianet.com/edevall/case2.jpg
i still have to finish routing cables... notice that molex hanging out in the middle of the window
i want to paint it if i ever have time. any suggestions as to color ?(people say i have no sense of color so please help!)

the stats on this are: Bh-6 rev1.0 p3 cumine 850 @ 1.05Ghz (8.5x124) 256mb CL2 7ns geforce3 ti200 golden sample o/ced to core-255 mem-280(64mb DDR)
well i better stop ranting now

Wicked mod.

I'd go with a cobalt blue.

Ithought about doing something like that with a biohazard symbol.

How is the window attached? Is it one solid piece behind the sheet metal, or is it a patchwork?

I want a pic of the other sideof the pannel.

Cool

i guess from the reponse it was a good mod
blue you say? me likey....

heres the general process (pm me if you have more indepth questions....) ( boy, i write alot..... i guess i wont get any pms)
1 design your design on an actual size piece of paper then cut it out to make sure you like it (on the paper also mark "keep-out zones" areas that you do not want to show/areas that the plexi cannot be)
2 trace the design on door panel
3 lay the sheet of plexi over the door and use dry erase marker to figure out your cuts
4 do a rough cut of the plexi (remeber its better to leave extra and cut off more than the other way around!) and tape it to the door to make SURE you can close the door (i had many problems with being able to close the door once i was finished which is why i added this step)
5 cut out the design on the door (i used a jigsaw but i think you could use a dremel or a laser cuter ... if you use a jigsaw be careful about bending the whole door out of shape....)
6 lay the plexi in the door again and lay any other hardware you are installing to make your fine cuts on the plexi and also mark any screw holes you are planing to drill (ie for fans)
7 drill holes and do a semi-carefull smoothing of the metal edges
8 do the molding/trim (this is the most tedious step.... maybe its worth going to a bodyshop or something and letting them trim it! ) i used strips of posterboard to figure out the angles
9 install any hardware
10 set the plexi in one last time and then glue the sucker in there! i used silicone adhesive (white or clear; i used white because my clear crapped out on me) but you can also use double stick tape (i had some carpet tape but i think its too thick- i think there would be a visible gap)
11 try and insert the door if this doesnt work then you obivously didnt do steps 1-11
12 hmm i know there is a step 12... what did i forget????

(j/k!!!!:-D)
hmm some more misc warnings:
cutting out as much as i did weakens the door but the plexi makes it sturdy but bendable.... i dont know about cutting out more though
dont get too close to the back edge of the door (ie the side you put the screws in) otherwise you may not be able to get the door flush and thus closed
leave your final paper design alone for at least a day before cutting metal- you might change your mind! (i did)
the reason i did all my sketches on an actual size paper was scale. i did 3 really cool designs but couldnt get the scale to work out when i actually tried to draw it
use something to protect the metal (maybe masking tape) dinged the paint 2x look to the lower right of the lower left screw on the fan (thats almost like tech manual speech there!)

i'm attaching a ruff paintbrush pic of how the window is laid out it is one solid piece i used an etcher (aka a scorer, etcher is just my name for it, i hope it catches on hehe) and the metal blade on my jigsaw. whatever you use dont go too fast and break often so that the blade doesnt get too hot and melt your cut back together.... i accidently broke the first sheet while trying to break the melted seam........

thats all folks.....

Edit: hats off to spyder462 (who posted while i was writing this essay here!) hes sending me the fan off his clipless gorb so i can actually start o/cing this baby again.... thanks spyder!

How are you running w/o GOrb fan?

And once again, nice mod Thx for that mini-guide It's given me some ideas... Do you really need to cut the plexi out, or can you leave it as one big sheet?

i left the plexi as one big sheet (see the diagram!) but i had to cut out around the fan and the "handle" so everything would lay flat.

how do i run without a gorb fan? very carfully and at less than stock voltage.... actaully for some *strange* reason my cpu runs cool enough (i think, i'm not brave enough to try :nervous: ) that i think i could run it at less than stock voltage and un-oced w/o a heatsink..... right now with the HS its only oced to 875 (25mhz)

the 120mm fan blowing air all over my case also helps

Here is my first case mod on the computer I built from the ground up. (grinning proudly...not bad for a mod GAL) The window kit is from PCMods, and the two added fans (one intake and top blowhole) are 80mm Vantec Stealth's. Next up is the lighting. I think I am going to go with the Lazer LED's that 3dXtreme just reviewed. Perfect for me. :-D

The LEDs are brighter, safer, cheaper, and simpler.

(Is "simpler" a word?)

Where do you get them, what do they look like, and how much do they cost?
