mad temperature drop

I had a setup where the cpu cooling fan was blowing down onto the HS. Air was being extracted by the nearby heatsink with an 80mm at 5V and a 120mm blowhole blowing upwards at 12. Just decided to rearrage it.

HSF now reversed so it blows away from the HS and sucks air from underneath, pushing it towards the PSU for extraction. Also reversed the 120mm Blowhole so it blows air directly towards the cpu and ram.

Before I was getting 51/52 C under load. Even when I had forgotten to plug the HSF back in but had just the blowhole and the psu running I was getting 34 or so and AsusProbe was creaming at me that my cpu fan had stopped! Plugged it back in now getting 31 deg under full folding load on the XP1600 running at 1.86GHz with +0.25V!!!! Thats a drop of 17 degrees!!!

Moral of the story: sort out airflow properly. It's even got quieter since I reversed the 120mm which used to make a lot of noise.

The readings are consistent with BIOS reports so I think this is pretty accurate (for an on core diode)

you sure thats the on core diode? because it looks a LOT like the kind of results you get when you cram a bucket load of air into the socket and cool the in socket thermister!

quite possible. Its an Asus A7V333 though and I'm sure the specs said it reads from the diode. Will have to check. Either way if its cooloer around the socket its gona be cooler on the cpu.

you are soooo right dood, just because you have a lot of fans doesnt mean the air is getting to where you want it. messinng with fan directions is a good idea and with the windows, its too easy to blow some smoke in, or tape some streamrs inside and see whats going on with your airflow
