Holy oversight Batman!!!

Someone smack me for this. I bought a 156 Watt TEC rated at 15v and 6amps. While installing a Power plug, I referred to an old 80watter I had bought at fries. I rigged the power plug the same without even looking at the power supply cables.

Today, as I was setting up my RAID 0 Array, I decided to hardwire the TEC to the power supply. Upon looking at the Color code on the power supply I realized I have been running my TEC at 5 fricken volts. After about half an hour of pounding my head on my desk I connected the +12v line to the TEC. I booted up and watched my core temp plummet down to an wonderful 6C. Under load it is currently running at 18.5c.

Moral of this story, Look before you leap. And never assume the Red wire is the 12 volt line. =)

So, you have a 156W TEC rated at 15V by 6Amps? Doesn't that make it a 90W TEC?

Confused,

AidanII

I'm confused also! A TEC with a Qmax of 156W would draw at least 17A at 15V.

Sorry bout that, It was supposed to be 16 amps. Actually it's 16.1 amps at 15.8v.

And most of the electronic systems I work on in the Navy have the red wire as the hottest line in the system. The red wire in my radar transmitter is at 21,000v. I guess I just fell into habit thinking red was gonna be +12.

And Yes the yellow one is +12.
