Fish tank for res.

Genius here are the pics of my fish tank res. The pics are not very good i had to take them with my web cam, I will post better ones when I can. The pump is a Maxi Jet 900 230GPH water pump, The radatior is one I bought at a metal salvage yard "all copper", the water block is from an Iceberg system. I will be getting a new Maze 3 water block soon, when I do the complete iceberg system I have will be f/s. I have never had it go over 42c no matter how long I let it run or how hard I push it
the plexiglass top I modified myself to run the tubing through it. I know it looks crude but I did it all myself and I like it. And I really dont want it all in my case so it works for me.

OH I forgot its a 10 gallon tank and the 80mm fan is on the back of the radatior, you hardly even need the fan. Let me know what you think. Brad

Edit to add the lights in the tank are christmas lights, it makes it look a little better, and a few multi colored glass rocks for looks too. Well thats about it . Let me know what you think, bodyman

Now where do you keep your fish?

That setup looks pretty good, bodyman. However, how does this perform? A better radiator would prolly be better for performance than a large mass of water, but I don't know if that applies in this case.

Allan

The tank is there because in my iceberg system the pump heated the water. a friend of mine and I tested this out quite a bit this way you are not relying on the fans and radatior so much the amount of water takes a very long time to even climb 1c my friende isnt even running a fan. With a maze 3 he is running 39c max temp running a XP2400. turn your fan off once and see how high your temps get with a small amount of water. I can shut mine off and hardly raise the temps at all The only reason I run a fan is to keep the temps in the tank constant and it doesnt take but a little 80mm fan to do it. i Tried my res that came with my iceberg with this setup but it ran warmer because was only 3/8 less water more heat. I could be wrong but like I said I built it myself and it works for me. I would rather build it myself and test it than buy a expensive boxed kit.
I liked my iceberg setup but I wanted to do my own thing so I did. I dropped the temps 9degrees C. I dont think I am running all that bad. One day I will make some noise and put a maze 3 water block and a 120mm fan on the rad and see what the temps go down too, But its so Quiet now I hate to do it I think I will just go with the Maze 3. If you think I could do this different I am open for sugestions. Bodyman
edit to spelling and btw the fish are in a 20 gallon thank in the living room. This is my old on i used to have fish in lol:-D

Its a bug in the quote system.

Read my guide at spodes abode, it explains my dislike for reservoirs fairly well

what is the temp in the tank ??

i'll be using a 10 gal for my cooler thing i thought about putting a couple of gold fish in mine hahaha carp are very happy in 80 degree water

actually i wont be able too I'm planing on running 10% antifreeze and 10%water wetter the fuel pump I'm running needs a little lubrication, the antifreeze has that ,and the water wetter will keep the metal parts from corroding

Can you get stainless steel waterblocks and heat exchangers?
I actually have a tropical fish tank next to my computers and could perhaps heat the water using a watercooled system. Main problem is that most metals especially copper are bad for the fish so the only contact metal you would be allowed is stainless steel.

Thats a good Question, I have no idia if they have a stainless one. This thread is older I would start a new thread asking that same question.
Good luck, Bodyman

Thanks for the reply- Don't think I was being entirely serious in my question. I certainly have not seen any stainless steel waterblocks for CPUs.

Lord Vetinari, An aquarium has water that would cause formation of bacteria on the inside of the system in no time. Perhaps a heat coil exchanger would be ok?? I've maintained aquariums for many years and I'd say off hand that's not a bad idea you have! You could put a series of stainless or even pvc coils in the gravel and use them as a tank heater. Regulating the temp would be the only problem I can see at the moment.

BTW: Great work on the 8RDA memory timings!

Nice homemade job, bodyman! See pics of mine in the link in my sig.

lord Vetinari,
I didnt think you were that serious, You never know with the crazy water cooolers these days lol.

Uncle Bob,
BTW I have an Uncle Bob in Pennsylvania.
Back on the subject though That is a good idia for the fish tank putting copper coils in the gravel. I may give it a try this summer, I have wanted to put a Piranha in it but I knew it wouldnt work with the water.
I have seen the posts on your cooler on another forum before. I think you have a great home made system, it sometimes takes a creative mind for these coolers and they work.
Myself I really dont want everthing inside my case and also when people see it the Expressoins and Questions are Quite humorous, I guess wild minds can come up with wild ideas and I love it. Well Ive rambled enough, Bodyman

Let me know how it works, just remember, if it's in the water with the fish, it has to be inert in respect to the fish. Copper won't work!

Thats true I will use Big clear tubing, the crap loves to stay coiled anyway once its been that way a while well let it . or maby figure out how to keep it coiled so you can see it on the bottom with green or pink anti freeze running through it. It might look cool. Thats a project for later though. Bodyman
