Suggestions on case fans & heatsink/cpu fans I want to buy some new case fans and a new heatsink/cpu fan. Can anyone give me some good suggestions of these with the best noise : price : cooling ratio. My system right now is too loud and I hate it. I have a AMD Athlon XP 2000 and an EPoX 8RDA MoBo. I was looking at the Volcano 6Cu+. Is that a good choice?

Don't go with a 6cu+, the V7+ and V9 outperform that HS by far. I have a stock XP1800 running on a ECS K7AMA board with a 6cu+ that runs at 55c (full time folding system). I am running this XP2000@1.9G with a V9 and full load temp is around 36c. I use AS3 on both systems also. As you can see there is a BIG difference in the heat transfer from the 6cu+ to a V9 and even bigger difference between the V9 and SLK-800. If you are not on a tight budget and don't care about noise. About the best HS and Fan combo is a SLK-800 with a 80mm Tornado fan. If you care about noise and are on a budget then look at a V9. As for case fans, once again if you are not on a budget and dont care about the noise. Get some Tornado 80mm fans, powerful but VERY loud. If you are on a budget or care about the noise, some Thermaltake Smart Fans2 will be good because you can control the RPMS on it. If you dont already have a side mounted fan then you might want to think about modding a side panel fan directly across from the CPU that way the CPU will get direct outside air instead of system air. You can also mod a side panel fan to help cool the video card also. The key thing to remember though is to try to keep the intake/exhaust CFMs as even as possible.

If you go with a 900, the plus to that is a 120mm fan can be mounted on to it. But most reviews have the SLK-800 still out performing the SLK-900 even with the 120mm fan, but not by much. But I never seen a review with a high CFM 120mm output fan either ![]() It just comes down to preferrence.

*Goes back and re-reads a few reviews* My fault. That should of been a 92mm fan :nervous: (no egg on the face face. lol.) I have seen a few post on another forum that some people have mounted a 120mm fan to the 900. A SLK-900 with a Tornado 92mm (119cfm) fan. Might be an interesting setup.

A 120mm fan at 7v would probably be a better bet, noise/performance.

The best performance/price/noise option would be an SK-7 with SCF2 running at 2500RPM or so. SLK-800 and SLK-900 are still expesive, and the noise from a Tornado fan is unbearable for me.
